Lovely catch and a Lovely video…
1 - Great to see that the stuttering has gone in the cached version.
2 - Thank god for cached video!
3 - Both you and your MA have balls!
4 - Great catch
5 - GREAT expression on your face just after the catch! I chuckled! #Relief!
You get the “Coastal Flyer” badge.
Not exactly what it’s for - but there is great coastal scenery in that vid (though can’t say that was what I was really looking at … first lovely sailing then a catch drew my attention!).
Thank you Chris. Yep, I used a X32 ND filter so I managed to get it down to 1/60th at 30fps which should have been bang on the money. I think it’s all the plastic in the water from the fish farms around here that makes it look artificial
Thank you John.
Thanks Dave, It was very, very stressful, I have to say. Especially as I knew that if it landed on the water it would immediately tip over! I’m longing to find a really small flotation device that will save it from disappearing without impeding air flow. Although the boat was effectively stopped, I think we were drifting at 1/2 knot or so, I chose to bring it over the side where we were drifting away rather than towards it. Next time, I might try it the other side. Note the speed it shoots off at the beginning, that wasn’t me flying it, that was just an automatic, vertical take off.
Thanks for my Coastal Flyer Badge Dave. I shall wear it with pride!
Nice video and nice catch, rather than trying to concentrate on shutting down the motors hand catching on the boat just turn it upside down, a little less to think about
Great Film !, The look of relief on your face after the hand catch, says it all !!!
I agree with @MementoMori a quick flip on it’s side, instant shutdown !
If you go “Title” in your profile, you can select it to appear after your UserName.
Great shots, well done.
Just to add @ash2020, The area around there is one of my favourite spots !.
I have spent many holidays on the “Isle Of Mull” years gone by.
I use to take a group of School Kids to “Mull” every Whitsun, and we would stay at “Arle Farm”, and they could see from the high point of the Accommodation the Local Sea life activity in the early Morning and late evening ,Great Memories !
Shame we did not have drones to play with 20 years ago when I last was up that way !.
Must get back up there, before the grim reaper appears !
Thanks MementoMori, I will try that, I was worried it might disorientate the compass. It seems to need a lot of calibrating lately.
Cheers Richie.
Chris, Mull is such a great place, lots of Sea Eagles. We often sail down to the bottom end near Carsaig.
I’m 67 and not planning any appointment with the grim reaper anytime soon.
The great success was my home made “handle”. There is no possible way I could have caught the Mavic body underneath with all that movement without getting minced. It’s just a bit of carbon tube that clips on, it doesn’t restrict the airflow much and only weighs 25g.
It probably won’t any more that the boat or equipment, I wouldn’t advise it all the time but it would make things easier when trying to catch on a moving boat.
Just make sure your hand catcher is up to the job and is secured properly when setting up.
I’m going to make up a little velcro strap, just in case the clip doesn’t hold.
Was quite impressed by this. Made the catch way more easier.
I don’t think its an exaggeration to say I couldn’t have done it without, maybe with strong gloves.
