First flight of the year then Crash!

Yep :face_exhaling:
All is good so far …… unlike the one a year ago where the bearings went & DJI replaced it under warranty ( but was locked on the latest FW )
This one is mint mint mint & I had opportunity of 4 different versions of the FW when I booted it up, so was not tied to “ this is what your getting kinda thing “ if that makes sense …… am pleased ….

Blimey, that’s a bargain Richard. I knew DJI repairs were good value, but that’s ridiculous! Congrats.

Just had a right result !
When I received my replacement drone just over a week ago I checked the warranty status on the replacement drone & as DJI have done in the past they carry the remainder of the warranty over from the old drone to the replacement which was ‘ roughly 12 months ‘ which was showing that validity the other day, anyhow yesterday I noticed the warranty was no longer showing it said ‘ warranty period to be updated ‘ so thought id give them a quick call to see why it is no longer showing & that it had about a years worth of warranty left, anyhow the lady the other end said the warranty does not expire until Jan 2027 & that they’d given me a new 2 year warranty now you can’t moan at that especially with the price I paid & the top quality replacement I got,
Thank you DJI over the moon about that !

Bloody hell

Did the replacement come with a new Care Refresh? Or does the expiry date of the original care refresh now apply to the replacement drone?

Unfortunately I didn’t have care refresh :grimacing:
However I can add care refresh to this one but obviously with a video as it’s past 48 hours of activation, but am holding off to see if & what with the rumoured Mavic 4 Pro & or maybe just get the Mavic 3 Pro then try to sell this one, but just one thing regarding the replacement mentioned above, as we all know( assume) that the replacement drones are refurbished but like new, well what rang alarm bells when I got my replacement was ( thinking is it actually new ? ) reason was when I booted it up it was on the first firmware released with the drone  so I had the choice of what firmware I wanted to put it on but in the past like many others have experienced DJI usually put the latest firmware on it ‘ well to the best of my knowledge anyway ‘, so maybe it’s new hence the 2 year warranty but I guess I’ll never know but result never the less, also on a very deep ocd inspection I cannot find one single witness mark blemish as I have with refurbed in the past if anything is better than the one I sent out but that was flawless too hence the damage

When I trashed my 3wk old Avata 2 and Goggles 3 (pilot error), DJI replaced them both for £59.00

Great news about the warranty Richard. Apparently the serial number should indicate if it is refurbished - “The tenth character on the serial number or the fifth letter from the last will have an “S” or “R” for refurbished DJI drones.”

Yes it has none of those Bruce, having also done research in the past on what you said, apparently some say that is not the case, although some say it is, however it has none of those letters to say the least, great result tho :+1:

@Kirky How did, I miss this thread, Rich? New Years resolution: Thou shall not crash my drone!

Sorry to hear about the old drones demise, but the King is dead, long live the king!

£59, for a replacement is the result of the year (I know its only just started)! Hell, it cost me 3 times that to take my kids and their kids, wives and husbands out for a meal, and all I was left with after was indigestion!

Seriously, a great result, though, matey just goes to show it’s not worth the angst when it happens.

Hi, the discount of £17.50 was only on the service repair fee, so cost otherwise would have been £76.50. That still makes it incredible good value and service.

Ah well I may as well add on to this rather than start another thread,

As said above everything looks fantastic !
Took it out last week everything seem led fantastic ( only that id noticed ) when doing panoramas the jpeg wasn’t stitching properly ( all skewed ) so I told DJI & like I thought they’d say re flash the firmware etc, so I did,
Yesterday took it out for the day & again panorama jpeg’s are not stitching properly & the drone has started to get somewhat hot like it’s over heating, just spoke to DJI & told them as above so this one is going back :slightly_frowning_face:

Just my luck !

Don’t know what they’ll do ….

Just read all this sorry to hear of your bad luck. I clipped a tiny branch egde the other day whilst landing quickly as it was beeping at me, it jostled and stayed in the air - guess I was lucky.

Yes I guess it is what it is, thought it was all going too well with the excitement of the bargain I had in getting it replaced, it’s no one’s fault it’s technology & unfortunately things can( will) do go wrong “ especially for me “ lol,
It’s just a bit of a pain all the back & fourth sending off etc etc & hoping it all gets sorted ( I’m sure it will ) I’ve only had it 16 days let alone the warranty so I’m sure I’m still within the cooling off period of it not being satisfactory, DJI did call me just over a week ago as they do to check all is ok with the replacement, I did say hold fire as I’ve noticed it’s not stitching panos I’ll re flash the FW & I’ll let you know asap, I even re flashed the rc as well as update the fly app etc, I tried everything possible my end which when I explained to the guy at DJI Nottingham he said that was helpful as everything I’ve done he would have done but has obviously not solved the problem, he said he’d call tomorrow once he has the drone so fingers crossed it will be replaced & hopefully all be good,
Thanks :slightly_smiling_face:

Edit : even tried different sd cards as I thought they may be corrupted.

Just got off the phone to DJI they told me it was( is) a very interesting case with the things they’ve found that are wrong with the drone, just waiting for the list to come through then I shall update, at least I know it’s not me as at one stage I did question myself am I going crazy ! ( apparently I’m not the technician said ) so that’s a bonus to say the least …

Right well I didn’t get a detailed message as what was explained on the phone that the mother board is playing up, something also to do with heat sink, the pano JPEGs don’t stitch all the time & when it’s doing panos the gimbal does a nod ( when it shouldn’t ) or something to that effect but it’s faulty & being replaced, I’ve missed shipping today so it will be tomorrow now so fingers crossed this one gives me no grief 🧎🏼‍♂️‍➡️🤞

They told me way more than said above & listed below, anyway …..

Well I’m hoping :crossed_fingers: this is the last time I shall be adding anymore sagas or dramas to this post regarding my misfortune,
I thought not say this the other day as I wasn’t sure if I had heard right when speaking to the DJI person at the centre, he told me & was very apologetic for the problem that I had with the first replacement as mentioned above with the mother board issue & he said that I shouldn’t or this shouldn’t have happened although things can & do go wrong & or are faulty, he told me that he has( was) requesting a brand new unit( replacement) not a refurb for my troubles & as an apology,
One might argue & say nonsense they’re all refurbs etc etc, but have just taken receipt of the replacement & gone over it with a fine tooth comb & it is perfect aesthetically with not a witness mark or any sign that it is( may) be nothing other than brand new, out of courtesy I thought ring in ( as I promised I would ) to thank them for there delivery & how they handled it & what id been promised, the guy did go on to say “ again “ that it is a brand new replacement 100% & not a refurbished unit that he personally requested !
Absolutely over the moon ( again ) what a fantastic result for the end of the week & again i am super happy with their procedure in rectifying this, result speeches happy :partying_face:
2 year warranty again ….

Well you just couldn’t write it :person_facepalming:t2:
Couple of months later although I thought id noticed early on, occasionally I was having to crop in/straighten the horizon as I thought it was slightly off & actually was also mentioned when one of my pictures was in the ( let’s edit is it worth the effort thread ) by another member, again didn’t think much of it thought maybe just a blip wind/weather kinda thing, well, noticed I’ve had to do this more & more recently but tried to put it to the back of my mind although having to keep cropping in I was losing resolution/pixels etc,
Anyways then the other week when doing the RTF comp tried a wide angled pano ( not 180 ) & it went a little do ally on me the screen whited out when it took the last picture of the 9 & I couldn’t get the view back on the rc screen so I had to hit RTH to get the drone back as I couldn’t see a thing,
Thought when I get home I’ll re flash the FW see if that sorts it out - calibrated the gimbal IMU & off out I went again to try it out,
On trying it out the compass said it needed calibrating so I did so, brought the drone back went off somewhere else went to fly it again then it asked me to calibrate the compass again so I did,
After that it took a good few minutes to get any satellites ( has never been a problem before )

Got the drone up in the air & on on its return manually it started to fly like it was in Fpv mode whilst viewing on the screen the horizon was seriously seriously pissed, so having had enough off the drama raised a ticket & off it’s gone to Nottingham :grimacing:
It’s been 3 days they’ve had it now & just got off the phone to them they’ve also now found the gimbal/camera won’t focus, let alone the other problems which they’ve not yet discussed so I’m waiting for a call back, I mean it’s acceptable one being faulty but really this is now the third one !

Just got off the phone to DJI again,
Gimbals naffed internally
IMU is naffed
Other software & hardware issues ( intermittent ) but playing up
They said it has a list of problems to be more precise,
However they’re not sending me a unit back from there ( Nottingham ), they are getting a unit sent over from the Netherlands which I won’t get until next week now, it’s also been noted that I receive a new unit & not refurbed but we shall see on that.

Well, no sooner after I typed this up Friday late & what I was told up above, later that evening I get a message from DJI / dpd which I didn’t take a lot of notice due to what I was told ‘ I thought maybe an error ‘, so clicking away all night Friday on the dpd link & nothing, Saturday morning nothing so yep thought it was an error with also them telling me it’s a bank holiday so even from the Netherlands will be earliest mid next week ‘ no probs I thought ‘, so yesterday the link updated saying we have your parcel ‘ thought whatever ‘, checked again this morning & it said it had reached my depot, I thought ok maybe is coming but be here Tuesday - anyhow turned up here a few hours ago,
So give it a good old inspection :face_with_monocle: booted it up bound paired & what not, so yea happy days so far, put my flier id & contact details on it etc & a nice big QR code on the top of the drone code to stick in Karen’s eyeball should she need to know the rules !
