Fly away, watery grave :-(

Mine behaved fine but then I did the update at home. Not sure if that would have made a difference.

I had an issue today,

The first battery asked for a compass calibration, which I did then decided just to fly straight up and do a few shots

The second battery at a new location went fine, other than I noticed at around 10 meters it kept dropping, I put this down to the bottom sensor over water

The Third battery, the same location as the 2nd (over water) took off and hovered, checked the controls then moved out over the Lake. Then oh crap! SD card appears to be slow error!
and then a disconnect “Aircraft not Connected to RC”
I had no control for a few seconds, the Mini 2 just hung there :scream:
Then Return to home kicked in and as it shot up I got it back
I brought it back and landed and called it a day, didn’t want to risk losing it over water

I haven’t had time yet to check the flight logs

Is this with the newest updates? I’m thinking I might not bother if so.

It is. Fly app 1.4 seemed to go ok on 15th, Flight as normal on 16th, 17th firmware update just before flight and then it all went downhill within first minute of take off.

Being involved in software development I’m forming an impression that after constant iterations and fixes upon fixes DJI might have created a bit of an unmanageable monster with their software.

Just logged on this morning to upload my flight logs and got a firmware update

Confirmed.

Shame it took them four days to announce it

So am I right in thinking these firmware updates will not affect the Mini 1 because it doesn’t have the RC-N1 controller ??

Think I need a test flight this afternoon - don’t want to go out on a shout for a lost dog and have the drone disappear too :man_facepalming: :man_facepalming:

Yes, confirmed. This is Mini 2 only.

Still doing a test flight this afternoon - what’s the chances DJI have stuffed the Mini 1 by changing the Fly app … I wonder

i suspect it may have been something with the update.
I don’t do updates while I’m out, always skip them until I can do them at home and do a test flight somewhere safe after.

Same here, it’s the sensible thing to do. It’s not that I don’t trust updates but I prefer to do them at home before I go out and fly. Too much can go wrong when you’re out and about.

Yeah, for me it’s that I want to know that it’ll handle the same as last time I flew. So that I don’t waste time, and I’m too impatient to wait for the update when I want to fly!!

Same here and an expensive lesson learned. I’d been checking for an update after the fly 1.4 update. Nothing for two days, until I come to fly on Saturday.
I shall treat an update suggestion in the field as bad weather and do it at home.

Goods news, DJI analysed flight logs and are replacing my Mini2 - result! I’ve asked what went wrong exactly and will share if I get a reply.

Update from DJI on the cause on my flyaway “ According to the data analysis, the flight accident is caused by a possible compass interference. There is no pilot’s error and we determine to cover this case under warranty. For safety concern, please avoid flying near any tall buildings, steel structures, mountains, rocks or even trees which may affect the accuracy of the on-board compass and block the GPS signal.“

Must be my magnetic personality😂

Seems generic but at least you got a response.

If it’s your personality you’ll have to give up flying for good :joy:

Well done DJI for replacing it without Care Refresh. Shows it’s well worth putting in a claim however remote you think your chances of it being accepted.
