Thanks for this @LE60LAD . I have made contact via the EMA website, which was a different email address, and had a really positive response back from them.
Restrictions they have initially informed me of is that no UAS is to descend below 20 m AGL if overflying the airfield, and no flying over any aircraft or the aprons.

If anything else crops up after I submit my official application, then I shall report back.

Ian the area’s I am quite keen to fly from are these ones

View Point 3 as that is as far as I can tell at the end of a public road and you will get a decent enough view both the DHL site - hopefully with some planes parked up bit also the AeroPark next to it

Then I think a walk along the AirPort Trail towards the picnic area might also be a good spot then you can get the UPS and FedEx planes parked up - maybe near Kuehne + Nagel long the trail as that is across from FedEx/ Royal Mail / UPS

Not sure at the moment if I should submit request for all the days at them locations for afternoon flights then I can just book a half day off closer to the time when I know what the weather is doing and then just let ATC know if I will be flying or not - my only worry is not being granted full hight as 20m AGL might be a bit restrictive from that distance to get decent photos.

Now that the sun is out today and runway closers today I hope we will see some decent photos - though it is a little windy out - UAV forecast reports gusts up to 28-35mph at the mo at the AirPort - mmm

I plan to do a bit of a recce walk sometime soon too - when the weather plays ball haha

I think you’ve read @Ian5 's post back to front?

Well, either that or I have

I read it as you can fly between 20m and 120m? (ie. do not drop below 20m)

Two of my three TOALs are where you have indicated - the Viewpoint 3 and Picnic Area at the far end. They have preliminarily accepted these.
I also want to fly around Donington Park, especially as the track is usually inactive during Wednesdays.

They have told me that 20 metres is a Minimum height above the actual airfield. :+1:

They have asked me for the days I wish to fly on, so I shall request a few, in case weather doesn’t play ball.

Defo, me too. :+1:

Which means I can fly the length of the runway…at 119m to maintain VLOS.

Considering they could have just said “No, you’re not flying here at all!”, I think that 20m lower limit is a genuinely cool restriction - fair play to them :person_bowing:t2:

Look forward to all the photos and videos that follow from everyone attending

Be sure to start at 20m at one end of the runway and gradually increase your altitude as you go.

You can not miss the opportunity for a real life flight sim recording

Good tip. There’s quite a gradient there I recall. I really really hope there are some of those Asimovs (?) parked up.

yeah I did think that was a bit odd but I would have clarified that with ATC haha - but yeah I do think that below 20m is a bit crazy haha the fence is nearly that high haha

Thanks for the clarification on this bit as I did have it the other way round haha

some great shots there - so glad the weather changed for you as it was a bit iffy earlier.
The runway and AreoPark are fab - looking forward to seeing more and hopefully I can get to do some of my own - bet the buzz you get from doing this is crazy - even with all the approvals being in place - just so cool
