Just after a bit of advice. My team (I’m official club photographer not just a supporter) have made it to a final at Wembley in May. I would love to get some scene setters with may drone obviously before any significant crowds build.
I have contacted Brent council about written permission to not contravene their PSPO but am awaiting response. If I don’t get anything back or a supportive response am I right in assuming I’m okay to fly from private land within the PSPO area as long as I have the landowners permission? Thinking maybe the hotel we are stopping at?
I’ve moved your post to a new topic @DJNelson where it’ll get more eyes on it
Yes, confirmed, from private land, you can do as you please - Brent Council have no control or say in what happens in the airspace over their own land.
Councils often do the same with a “policy” or a sign in a park. It’s often not worth the paper it’s written on and is simply there to try and serve as a public deterrent.
Thankfully you’re part of a club that knows all the tricks these types of organisations get up to, and we can tar National Trust with that same brush too
Just a small observation… Maybe or maybe not a NOTAM will be thrown around Wembley for games such as football finals, regardless of what league they are in?

Hi guys just thought I would get back in touch to let you know how it all went with the enquiries. Long story short people were helpful enough but only in saying no.
Brent Council effectively admitted that their PSPO is largely irrelevant around the stadium as it’s not their land. They also pointed out that the matchday will likely have a no fly zone applied as all ‘event days’ do (likely true and I understand why). So I said well what about the day before which isn’t?
So they passed me onto the company that owns the land (Quintain). They replied to say Wembley Park has also been designated a ‘Crowded Space’ by the Metropolitan Police and this therefore overrides the CAA guidence for sub 250g. Apparently as this is in place permanently they can never permit flights.
To be honest I am going to have a busy enough weekend with the stills camera so I am not going to push it. Shame but not essential.
I found this in a search from a document titled : ’ Crowded Places, The Planning System & Counter -Terrorism ’ which is a government document issued in 2012.
It interestingly states the following :
1.04 A crowded place is a location or environment to which members of the public have access that may be considered potentially liable to terrorist attack by virtue of its crowd density. What counts as a crowded place is a matter of judgment. Crowded places will be found in a wide range of locations including: sports stadia, pubs, clubs, bars, shopping centres, high streets, visitor attractions, cinemas, theatres and commercial centres. Crowded places can also include the public realm - open spaces such as parks and squares. A crowded place will not necessarily be crowded at all times – crowd densities may vary during the day or night, and may be temporary, as in the case of sporting events or open air festivals.
So that in a way ties back to what you have mentioned about flights can never be permitted for recreational purposes.
Unrelated really and a bit ironic but just heard some of my drone footage of our home ground is going to be used on the Wembley big screens before this Sunday’s game. That’s pretty cool!
