Flying in Italy

@Nabbit . Thanks for that. I have liability insurance for my drone but yet to find out if its valid outside the UK. :+1:t2:
@andyhiggs Brilliant idea, will check out the Ireland registering process. :ok_hand:t2:

@andyhiggs

Well what a palaver! Registered with the IAA and your given a personal MySRS account and IAA number. You also need a authenticator app for 2 step login process so downloaded app. Take the online free test (virtually identicle to the CAA’s) which is free but then you have to pay €30 for proof of training! Then you have to register as a UAS Operator and pay another €30 to get your Op Reg ID (you dont register the drone in EU, unless bigger then 250g, its you that has to be registered). This ID comes with its QR code that I printed and stuck on the ars of my mini 2. I also had to submit my Policy No of my liability insurance before they accepted my application. There is a further test required if not just flying in Open cat and/or drone is bigger than >250g etc, but I dont need it! I’m looking into a cross borders thing, which is mentioned in the Regs but I’m good to go as far as I’m concerned… although £50 lighter (rough conversion lol). :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:
Cheers Andy for a good steer :face_in_clouds: :clap:t2:

Glad you’re sorted! Bit if a pain yes, but woth it. Have fun and share somebgreat footage :grinning:

@clinkadink Hi Chris, was on EASA website and come across this passage for identifying your drone with the EU Op Reg No:

You will then be issued with a ‘drone operator registration number’ that needs to be displayed with a sticker on all the drones you own. You must also upload it into the ‘remote identification system’ of your drone(s).

I’ve stuck the QR Code on my drone but not sure about uploading it into the remote id system of the drone, any idea how to do this?

AFAIK, the remote id system is not live yet. It’s coming soon as we keep hearing.

FWIW I flew <250g in Italy last sept without issue. Only thing at the time I did was get a EASA A1/A3 cert from the German LBA.

I was in Sorento a couple of weeks back and took my mini 2 with me. I didn’t use it as much as I should have (I’m completely new to drones myself so still finding my feet) but did a few brief flights around Sorrento, Positano Amalfi, Minori etc without any issues, although it was fairly quiet in general. Saw a couple of other drones at the time too so you won’t be the only one.

My top tip - don’t try and buy from the fruit sellers positioned at strategic scenic points on the Amalfi Coast roads. Our friends went to buy a few strawberries, oranges and tomatoes and the seller wanted 107 Euros for 2 small carrier bags of fruit! They eventually bartered them down to 20 Euros for some tomatoes and 2 punnets of strawberries, which was steep enough with the seller being quite aggressive about it, only to discover that the strawberries were all mouldy and inedible so they went straight in the bin!

Cheers mate. I’ll remember the advice. Share your pics, might give me some ideas? I’m taking my flymore mini 2 kit on the plane in a backpack; hopefully wont have a problem through security etc! Got all the EU drone licence sorted but not goin to bother with cross border stuff (my Reg was with the IAA). :+1:t2:

Colin if you get a chance to go you must, Positano its the most beautiful place in the world…

I’ll see what I can find to post but to be honest a) it was mostly poor quality videos thanks to my lack of skill and b) it’s mostly of my daughter and our friends so bit reluctant to post without checking with them first.

I had no issues at all with security flying from Birmingham, they didn’t even give it a second glance - they were much more interested in my portable speaker for some reason. I got a LiPo Battery bag that took all 3 batteries OK (brand was Flycoo2, £10 from Amazon) after reading advice on here, and everything still fits in the standard case with that in too.

Will second what BigDog says re Positano, it’s well worth a visit and stunning (although bloody exhausting getting up the hill to the car at the end!). I saw two people flying drones on the beach there (taking off from the little pier to the side of the free beach) but didn’t film there myself, as a complete beginner I didn’t want to risk accidentally divebombing some poor family.

Not sure if you are hiring a car but I really enjoyed driving around there although it’s fair to say they are a bit crazy, with lots of scooters overtaking on blind bends etc. It was all a bit hectic at first but you soon get used to it. We did a day trip to Capri for a boat trip round the island and a trip up the chair lift, which was good fun too.

We had a fantastic time and would definitely go back again. It wasn’t expensive there either - I’d been told to expect stiff prices but most things were comparable with here (roadside lemon stalls excepted).

We’re travelling with Riveria Travel on a package tour and looking at our schedule we spend half a day visiting the Amalfi coast including Positano, on our way to Almalfi and Ravello. I have seen some footage of that coastline on YT and have to agree with you it looks totally stunning. I’m salivating just thinking about it. :ok_hand:t2:

Cool! I only started flying in Jan myself and am totally jealous of some of the GADC talent on show here. No driving for me, thankfully, as on coach tours so can keep my attention fully on the views. :sunglasses: Thankfully, dont take much skill to launch the mini up high, position it for a jaw dropping composition and then land it on my head! Good at that. Booked this hol nearly 3 years ago so chompin at the bit!
PS. Thanks for the info on Brum Airport, which is where we start the adventure. Feel more confident about it now. :+1:t2:
