Flying in Italy

This seems a useful resource, with links to all the EASA states, https://uavcoach.com/drone-laws-in-the-european-union/

For general information, I eventually managed to access the “D-Flight” app using my National insurance number as the “Tin number”.
This showed a number of flight restriction zones not shown on other apps such as Drone safety map (Altitude angel) including one that covered part of Sorrento allowing no “open” flights whilst the majority of the rest of Sorrento had a max flight height of only 25 metres!

So clearly very important to check the “D-flight” app.
Unfortunately given time constraints on trip, won’t take the drone this time.

Still unclear whether registration in Norway is adequate as registration for EU as a number of sites refer to EU states rather than EASA. Therefore will probably end up registering through Ireland before next trip although as registration time limited seems best to wait until nearer any trip.

Thanks everyone that replied to my initial message.

Just to clarify, it needs to be a full EU member state, so your registration in Norway wouldn’t be sufficient.

Hi : travelling to the Italian lakes this summer
Anything i need to know . Permission ect .
With Mavic Mini 4 Pro … and anything to fill out before I go … be my first time using a drone in Europe …

Moved your post to this general thread on Italy, since one area doesn’t differ much to any other on their rules/regs.

Hi all
I’m going to Italy with my new Mini 4 Pro. I believe I need to register as an operator in Italy to fly there. I am having trouble registering n the D-Flight site because it asks for an ITC, which appears to be a taxpayer reference. I live in the UK so don’t have this. Any advice?
Thanks.

Moved your post to the “Italy” thread … and there’s a pointer on D-Flight a few posts up.

Thanks.
I’ve tried using my UK NI number, as suggested by the poster there, but it didn’t work for me.

They’re on Twitter/X … https://x.com/D_Flight_SpA

Might be able to get a response from them?

Or email? supportopa@d-flight.it

You have to pay now to get full access. I filled in the form and put crap in some of the entries and it got me enough access to see the FRZ.

You need EASA Op and Flyer Ids and display the former on your drone. No night time flying allowed without jumping through hoops and assuming you’re using a sub 250g drone you’ll be fine.

Hi : any info be most appreciated.
It a bit short notice . Going to the Italian lakes in a week or so . In the town of Stresa. Would only fly around the lake shore taken vids and photos of the islands there . Using mini 4 pro drone … Rules & Regs flying be appreciated. Thank you. Steve

Moved your post to the Flying in Italy thread. Lot’s of info above if nothing specific on Stresa (a lovely place … 1958 the first time I was there!) … but others may add more info. :+1:

Thank you  :+1:

Everything you need to know is in this thread. I’m going to Stresa next year, and there are no flight restrictions in the immediate area or the islands, but if you’re going with Riviera Travel, a lotof places on the itinary are in FRZ.

The place to get the info is in the Italian app D-Flight. You’ll have to register and pay €6 to get access to the full maps.

You’ll obviously need a EASA Op and Fly ID’s and have liability insurance (all are mandatory in the EU and UK CAA Op IDs mean nowt over there).

Thanks very much … much appreciated

One of the main considerations for my recent purchase is Sardinia next year. My research tells me so far it is fine to fly - apparently not at night though. The online CTM map shows various blue circles but all they say is no flu between 2300 - 0500 - wonder why? My accomodation host says many of his guests bring drones and use them without issue. It is quite remote there, my main worry is the plane in and out. I am concerned that I might be told I cant take it, and then will end up losing it as will have to leave it behind. BA say I can travel with it but I don’t trust the system, or the one in place in Sardinia to come back.

Hundreds of people travel with drones on commercial flights every day of the week; unless drones are banned/restricted in your destination country you will have no problem if you follow the rules.

Sorry, can’t help with your trust issues.

Only ever driven into Sardinia (well - via ferry, obviously) with drones. Several times, but not in a few years, and never had any issues.

@D0c.Col Tuscany bound - I am visiting the area around San Quirico D’Orcia in the 1st two weeks of May and am trying to figure out what I have to do to comply with regs. So far I have gleaned from this thread (is that what you call “Flying in Italy” or is it a sub-forum?) of Travel tips & Flying Abroad

  • Insurance required – need to check if what I have now is worldwide or just UK
  • Register with EASA – via Irish website for English version
  • Get the equivalent of Drone assist called D-Flight – I have and will post a separate question about that
  • Carry on batteries and RC controller – batteries with terminals taped and in Lipo bags
  • I am flying with Jet2 whose conditons state: that batteries must be below 12v & less than 100 Wh. I have a Mavic 3 Pro, which has nominal voltage 15.4, but is 77 Wh – advice in the thread seems to be – just do it!

Have I missed anything fundamental? Should I consider acquiring a mini 3 or mini 4 pro instead of taking the Mavic? I am mainly interested in stills - not video

D-Flight restrictions - Italy

Am I reading this correctly?
I am going to San Quirico D’Orcia, Tuscany in May. marked by the red & blue D map pin. It is in the centre of a huge area shaded yellow which I understand has an altitude restriction of 45 metres.
There are also a number of helipads and minor airports with no flying, I am not concerned about those as I wouldn’t want to be flying in those areas
