Flying in Italy

In Portugal and Tenerife yes.

But was post covid and stricter rules.

UTM Box

OK from what I can see the UTM Box (Unmanned traffic management) is not a feature of the DJI mini 4 Pro, the data necessary to be sent is dealt with via the DJI Fly app. This line on the form is presumably for other makes of drone that use a different system of communicating flight info.

The status of the drone is showing as active and I am able to print off the QR code - happy days

Cheers, the area we are in is def not in FRZ so fingers crossed.

I have heard Spain is so griefy it isn’t even worth bothering trying to fly there!

Last, year I would agree with you, Rich, as I had 3 of my flights blocked by DJI in Malta, and I had authorisation to fly from Tm-CAD up to a height of 60m.

I couldn’t get a signal to clear them in the short time I had, so gave up!

So this year, I’ve gone onto Flysafe and entered the FRZs that I have had authorised to fly in Italy and in Switzerland (the latter is in Zirmatt, and I have printed off the email’s that they’ve sent me stating who to contact on the day and have a great flight!) and DJI have replied with no requirement, or restriction (cant remember the exact message TBH).

I still have my doubts though. Fingers crossed all I’m expecting is Enhanced Warning Zone only and once ticked as being responsible for my flight, I should be free to fly. :crossed_fingers:

As above, it depends on which country / region / state you’re in

Bruce xjet is none too impressed that he can’t fly his Neo inside his own house because DJI won’t let him take off :exploding_head:

OK, we move onwards ( and hopefully upwards !). Here is a copy of the Tuscany region D-Flight map. I will be based in San Quirico D’Orcia, marked with the D-Flight pin.
There is a vast yellow zone labelled ā€œArea Toscanaā€ stretching from Orvietto in the south to near Florence in the North, a distance of appx 100 miles, it’s about 40 miles wide.

The full text reads:
Within the geographic area, when active, UAS operations are prohibited above the indicated height. Any exceptions may be authorized by ENAC in accordance with the provisions in force contained in the ENAC ATM series circulars.

Pilots are required to pay attention to the dangerous nature of the activities taking place within these areas.

Low-altitude military activity in these areas is authorized as follows: - Monday to Friday, excluding holidays (see GEN 2.1); times: 06.00-22.00 (05.00-21.00), if the activity is carried out in the territory or within 3 NM from the coast line, or H24 outside 3 NM from the coast line.

Almost makes you feel good to be in England !

Can the Mini 4 Pro be set not to fly above 45 meters? Or better still to warn if you’ve reached that height or do I have to just watch the screen?

Safety > Max Altitude can be set as low as 15m

Remember that’s above take-off … not above the ground. The ground in Italy isn’t level most of the time.

Well, I have been chipping away at D Flight now for some time, I went into it again this morning much as I didn’t want to. I have completed a few steps but am now stuck on 3 and 6. 3 is the operator page - the fields are all filled out, the boxes ticked, but when I save it / come out it says incomplete, It isn’t.

6 is register a UAS which again is all complete and populated. Same thing though, won’t show as complete.

I have had to buy a base subscription with tokens, cost 6 euros, and this has now been ā€œexecutedā€ to show the D Flight account as a base subscription. I have no idea if now having filled out steps 3 and 6, I have to wait for something, there is no information or explanation. But I will do what I usually do and chip away at it again over the coming weeks. I am genuinely surprised at how difficult and convoluted it all is. I suspect 80% give up instantly and just fly without anything.

I feel lucky not to be plagued with the issues everyone seems to be getting. It was straight through for me and I’ve sent them my ID today as requested. No doubt I’ll hit a stumbling block from here.

Am I right in saying a DJI Flip (I.E a C0 drone) has no remote ID requirement? So long as I have registered with d-flight for the operator ID, have insurance, I’m good to fly?

At what point does this occur - sending ID -and what ID is it, and where do you send it?

They e-mail you after you purchase the 6euro credit and register as an operator. The e-mail requests you fill out a form and return with an identity document. When registering as an operator, you have to input passport number too, and whilst they didn’t specify what type of identity document in the email, I sent my passport and it hasn’t been challenged yet.

I see. Ive been through the registration and payment but had nothing since.

I think you’re missing a step, the payment only adds credits to your account I believe, which you then need to use to purchase the operator QR code. That is what triggers the next set of e-mails.

From memory, this is the ā€œOptional package for base QR codeā€ option.

It goes without saying that the user experience of their website is shocking.

Did you manage to get through it after? Happy to guide you through it if needed

Hi haven’t had a chance to look. I exchanged the tokens I purchased for a base account, and the payment went through. Have had nothing since.

I’m seeing very contradictory information relating to max altitude in Italy. Some say 70m, some say 120m. Some say both. :face_with_spiral_eyes:

Can someone clarify this?

D-Flight is the official Italian App that specifies any restrictions. Italy is covered by EASA regulations so the default max height is 120m. However, they also introduce other controls that are promulgated in D-Flight. You place a marker on the map and read the ā€˜i’ information of restrictions should there be any. Its default in an unrestricted zone is 120m

I would not fly in Italy without registering with their Air Control Authority through the D-Flight software/app.
