Hi everyone! Got into drones as a hobby via building up a DJI back as a learning project back when they were a tiny company a few decades ago and then got into flying Mavics for fun (did end up co-supervising a Masters project at Imperial College on real time kinematics for precision locationing about a decade ago though). Years passed and the hobby fell away for me until the OG DJI FPV came out and I bought one in order to keep up with friends whilst back country skiing… but never flew it in acro; just wanted it for speed. But since the full scale invasion of Ukraine I got my former company into designing drone airframes rather than traditional composite aerospace structures as I have friends who are/were fighting… and that is why I’ve spent more time in Ukraine than in the UK this year. One of the crazy things about flying drones out there is that I barely flew myself; I was there as an engineer for my drones and to get feedback from their pilots in order to determine how to improve them. But now I’m getting into flying for fun rather than work so looking for like minded people. So if any people or groups want to go and fly at interesting places then think about letting me know.
FYI this is one of the drones developed by my former company back when I was Head of Design and CEO; it was one of the designs I was overseeing testing of in Ukraine: 15" Ghost Squadron Leader drone
PS If you think you’ve seen “oreo” black-white-black appearing drones then you probably have; the Five33 Ludicrous is made of nanocomposite materials I developed many years ago for air cargo applications and my former company manufactured the Ludicrous frames out of it for Five33… its actually a British, not American, drone!
