You would be OK with a mavic mini with no extras , 249g
Good luck with that Mr Horsham
This can only be enforced on HDC land such a park.
Maximum £500 fine for breach of the Horsham bye-laws (which do prohibit drones, it’s not just a “policy”), should they not have anything better to do with their time:
I have to say that those Horsham rules represent absolutely everything that is abominable about officialdom in this country. I especially like “No person shall step onto or otherwise place their weight upon any frozen waterway.” I mean, yeah, it’s not smart, but it needs to be a criminal offense?
Again though, they cannot regulate the air above, only the ground from which you take off…
### 37. General prohibition
No person shall cause any power-driven model aircraft to: (a) take off or otherwise be released for flight or control the flight of such an aircraft in the ground; or (b) land in the ground without reasonable excuse.
So all they prohibit is standing on their grounds to control, taking off and landing.
To be fare to Horsham council I’m pretty sure breathing is still allowed, (but that could change)
I think it’s about time I moved back to the south coast.
Public footpaths are ideal, I tend to drift off the path for more privacy if I find something looking suitable. Google and there’s thousands you’ll find around. Enjoy the walk even if no good to fly. I’ve even started to report problems , ie locked, broken gates and styles, overgrown paths etc.
I would disagree. There is no expectation of privacy in public. None whatsoever. If you are in public and you can you can see it, you can film/photograph it. Start filming in a publicly accessible police station car park and you’ll cause all kinds of issues but breaking any privacy statute or law isn’t one of them. Public rights of way are the same. If it’s public land or been granted public accces you are free to film what you want. You cannot trespass the eyes and a camera has been deemed an extension of the eyes in court. Basically, if you want privacy its down to the individual to create it and that applies to a drone camera as much as it does to a smartphone or dash cam.
That’s why it’s called The Grey Areas Drone Club.

Yet a search of their website and bylaws doesn’t bring up any results for drone.
Which is odd. I live in the next town over so it was somewhere I was looking at going.
Well…if its a cow its tongue can clean it !!
I’ve found the bye law on the Horsham district site and they also list the locations, so part 6 section 37 prohibits TOAL and operation from any of the locations in section 1. but there’s less than i thought.
Here’s the link:
that takes you to the location part of the page.
Weirdly I don’t see Pavilions in that list. That is a lot of space to ban the use for UAV’s/model aircraft.
Another interesting one is Crawley “prohibit” the flying of drones at Tilgate without permission but there are no bylaws preventing it.
The good thing is, where I go to practise/test after any updates don’t appear
You will have to let me know where that is haha. Horsham is the next council over for me so would love to have more areas to explore.
So looking at the details of the byelaw:
37. General prohibition
No person shall cause any power-driven model aircraft to: (a) take off or otherwise be released for flight or control the flight of such an aircraft in the ground; or (b) land in the ground without reasonable excuse.
That implies that you can’t even request permission to fly?
All the other restrictions state, ‘without permission’ or similar, but the model aircrafts doesn’t.
Hi Tim,
Thanks for the additional info’. But! That’s over 90 sites just in Horsham itself, plus others in surrounding areas. I may be missing something (nothing new there) but it still seems to me that we cannot fly (depending on drone mass) anywhere in Horsham without council permission. I would love to be wrong! Any comments/ideas welcome.
I tried to look for the likes of denne hill on the list, but couldn’t see it, unless I missed it. The thing for me, was that oustide of horsham itself there wasn’t a great deal. I love in Broadbridge Heath and that only has 1 of the parks listed and none of the others.
Off topic. I lived in Broadbridge Heath 2003 - 2008
