General 3D printing chit chat

did they release the STL file

still got to get bullets from somewhere… not a problem in the us, but a lot more controlled here.

not worth the agro in the US just go into any sportsman’s shop or Walmart etc

unless of course you are going to use a musket and I don’t think even those are controlled here.

even ā€œmanufacturedā€ guns can go wrong (ok, bit of a niche rifle… still manufactured but probably not considered mass market (like a Barrett))

sure it’s a bit more difficult to make a home gun… but ā€œscaremongeringā€ over what can be 3d printed and is viewed as a risk is like saying no one should have a pedestal drill or an angle grinder because of what you COULD make…
simply because you may have the means does not mean you have a motive and visa versa…

sometimes people need to think more about the motivation as to why people do bad things than simply thinking that by restricting the means to will prevent the occurrence.

the older I get the more I realise that one man’s terrorist may be anothers freedom fighter… that does not lesson the terrorists actions, but maybe asking why people do things and try to mitigate those issues before things occur may be the only preventative action that can be taken as ā€œthe good guysā€ have to be right every time to prevent terrorism… where as the terrorist / perpetrator of a crime has to be right only once.

I have not looked into the actions of this person, but from what I heard the guy he killed worked for some medical insurance provider and I presume that the guy felt aggrieved because of some treatment that was withheld to him or someone he cared about.

I guess that is another benefit of the NHS being free at the point of care… but even that has its problems as I heard about someone being annoyed that they had waited around a year for surgery and demanded to be taken into surgery on time, and when that was not possible because of an earlier procedure over running, besides shouting at staff … walked out… I guess that person did not really need the procedure as their actions helped no one… they will now not get their treatment… another person missed out on a valuable FREE surgical procedure booking and staff were verbally abused unnecessarily… had the person being paying for the proceedure would their outlook or expectations of treatment response been different?

no one ever wins at violence or and abuse to someone else… but sometimes reflection of the motives of ones actions can be helpful to prevent the issue or mitigate the issue before they escalate to something else or something which appears senseless to others but justified to them.

people need to take a little time to talk to one another to prevent the motive than think banning the means will do anything but make them respond in other ways

long live the 3d printer and it’s ingenious users and creators of all things printable

Give over

this was an interesting one… maybe we should prevent NERF projectiles from being sold as it’s probably only a matter of time before someone uses it for nefarious purposes

surely you mean nerfarious

Did anyone mention banning 3D printing :face_with_monocle: :man_shrugging:

I have noticed ever since the arrest of the shooter with the 3D printed gun, that the places I get my STL’s have been full of guns this week, worrying if this is the trend

Creality K2 Plus Combo 3D Printer

Looks good on paper, but when it comes to the nitty gritty it poops twice as much filament as the Bambu Labs, becuase it’s hot ends are twice as long, no need for them to be so long it’s crazy, not seeing one print farm recommending them yet neither

The Creality Nozzle is longer for a reason i.e there is no treaded joint between the heat break and the nozzle which will prevent any leakage from between the two.

On the other hand the shorter X1C nozzle does have a threaded joint between the nozzle and heat break and BBL admit their setup only reduces the possibility of leakage from between the two, not eliminate it completely. Plus there have been reports of the X1C nozzle coming off during printing :scream:

Know which type of nozzle I prefer .

Maybe so but I don’t get leakage with half the length of hot end, I genuinely looked at the plus, watched many videos, but reading between the lines it was not well received, shame as the build plate size is great, saying that Bambu are bringing a larger one out next month

Your printer is relatively new Mark so I wouldn’t expect any leakage but as usage increases, the heating up / cooling down cycles, swapping out of nozzles will cause wear and could lead to issues with the effectiveness of the seal between heat break and nozzle. Had experience of this with a previous printer after around 8 months of use it (had the same setup as the X1C), ended up having to replace the hot end assembly as wear on the bottom of the heat break prevented a good seal between it and the nozzle.

But as you have said before, if you happy with your printer, clap your hands :grinning:

Like I say I looked at the Plus, I watched a woman print a Star Wars figre, the filaments usage was 2.6kg plus 1.3kg poop.
I do remember my older Ender leaking, but thay was a single filament printer, when my X1C finishes it retracts the filamant back into the AMS

1.3kg of poop is massively excessive, printer settings must have been all to cock. Have to do manual filament swaps on my K1C if I do a multi-colour print (not that I do them that often) and probably end up with a few grams of poop.

Creality have started production of the CFS upgrade for the K1C. Will be keeping an eye on the reviews and may well invest.

Sorry i find that hard to believe. 30% wastage

Not my figures, there was a lot of colour swaps, and yes I agree it seemed a lot, but she explained why, it also bleeds a lot more than any ohter, so it needs the coolour swaps to do more wastage to stop or try to stop the bleeds, I will try and find the video, it was a few weeks ago

This is the video, I might have got my figures wrong, but still correct on the waste of 1.3kg, also she even adjusted the waste settings beforehand, just seems excessive

Only because the mechanic forgot to put the screws that hold it in place…
