Greeting from Hants

Hi All, I’ve been lurking for awhile and made the odd post and reply. New To the Drone scene and flying a Mini 2.

Always looking for new locations around the Southampton Area as living next door to the New Forest has it’s constraints due to National Park rules!

Cheers

P.

Hi @uav_hampshire and welcome to Grey Arrows :wave:t2:

Have you seen our members map? (Click the burger-menu in the top right) You may find some pilots living near you. Feel free to add yourself to the members map too :+1:t2:

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the #questions-and-answers category.

Looking for recommendations of places to fly? Check out our interactive map on Drone Scene - be sure to log in to gain access to the full suite of features and map layers:

And please feel free to add locations of your own too.

Please also take a moment to look at the Membership Levels section on our FAQ as we’re quite different to other clubs and you’ll be eligible for some rather exclusive club discounts as your membership level increases

Welcome once again!

Welcome to Grey arrows! I live near Southampton and go out quite regularly. Always looking for someone to join for a bit of flying.

Recently visited Netley Abbey, St Catherine Hill, the Hamble, Bursledon windmill

Let me know if you want to go out at some point

Hey Pal, i am up the road from you near Salisbury. I am going down the port on Saturday to film the cruise liners coming and going. You can go down Calshot and you can film in the New Forest if you get permission from a landowner, like a homeowner you know or a pub landlord.

I tend to fly down at Calshot when the tide is out and you can walk out a bit. Most but not all of it is Crown Estate so no issues at low tide. However certain costal birds can be a pain!

A small patch at the rear of Ashlett Creek Sailing Club is not to my knowledge NPA territory and I’ve had a good couple of flights there.

I popped it up right next to the castle, I also hand take off and land from public footpaths as these are general ok as not owned by anyone.

Calshot Spit is actually owned by the Crown Estate but on a very long term lease to Hampshire County Council. I’d rather just stick to the beaches than avoid any confrontation.

Not forgetting also it is actually within the NPA so more by-laws to deal with.

The CE do point that out : On occasions, third parties such as Government agencies or local authorities may restrict the flying of UAD’s on Crown Estate land.
