I’m Pan (AKA Makalla), and I’ve had an interest in drones for many a year. I used to be in the ATC, and one of the things I miss the most about it is flying, so one day I got a really cheap one off of Facebook Marketplace just to start playing around with in my garden (this was when I used to live in Crowborough, East Sussex). It was an “Ultra Drone X30.0 Storm”, and whilst it definitely wasn’t the best bit of kit out there, it helped me get a feel for controlling one, and even if somewhat vicariously, it allowed me to be able to “fly” again.
I moved to Ashford, near Staines-upon-Thames a few years ago and recently looked into drones again. I found the Honivon Drone B6 model (see photo below) on Amazon and decided to invest! I’m now looking for areas I can fly pretty openly near me, and also around/outside of Telford when I go up to see my kids (they’re in foster care up there). I’m pretty close to Heathrow and Windsor Castle, so as you can imagine, there’s some incredibly large patches of FRZ/RPZ!!
I’m chronically disabled (fibromyalgia and hEDS), so my ability to move around/get to places can sometimes be extremely limited, but I’m hoping that now I have a slightly better drone, that’ll incentivise me to get out of the local area, find some places to fly and take some nice videos.

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

Thank you for the welcome! I’ve been reading through the main posts for safe operation, legal requirements, also read through the CAA guidelines and NATS (were I worked briefly when they were stationed back in West Drayton!) to check out safe areas etc., and thanks to Drone Scene, I’ve found a coupe of spots local to me where I can actually fly; I’m about to visit one of them now!
Looking forward to learning more and having more great experiences flying!
