Hello and welcome - Nottingham

Hello everyone.
I’m a 70 yo male from Nottingham.
I have just recently bought a new DJI drone. I still haven’t flown it.
I hope there is someone in the area who would be willing to help me.
Thanks.
Steve.

Thank you JockyB.
I bought the drone about 6 weeks ago but still have not tried to fly it.
We live in a complex with lots of grass and open space, but still not sure exactly what to do.
Any information would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Steve.

Hi Steve - welcome to GADC :+1: :+1: :+1:

Hi Steve, do you have any open spaces near you ? ( parks, fields etc) where you can take off, without the risk of trees/ buildings ) If so, head to one of them. Follow the instructions on your handset and only take off once it says “ Home point updated” ( usually takes a few minutes to do this) Press the arrow on screen that says take off, then hold the circle that appears on the middle of the screen for a few seconds whilst the outer circle goes around and the rotors start. It should take off and hover a few feet off the ground. Left stick forward for up, left stick down for down. Right stick up for forwards, and right stick down for backwards. Left stick right or left will rotate the drone, right or left. Take it all easy, If you let go of the sticks, the drone should stay where it is in the air.
Let me know how you get on, or if you’re struggling, let me know :wink:
By the way, which drone and controller do you have ?

Thank you for that.
Yes, there are lots of open spaces I can try.
I will try the next good to fly day and let you know.
Thank you for all the information.
Steve.

If you need any help Steve, just ask

Thank you I will ask you I promise.
Thank you for your offer, you might regret it.
Steve.

Ahh, and there again, I probably won’t. I’ve always liked helping others Steve.

I’m in Nottingham too, I’m not hugely experienced myself yet, but I have recently passed my A2 CofC.
I’d be happy to help you get started.
Which drone have you bought?
Have you passed your Flyer ID test and got yourself an operator ID yet?

go to beeston weir feild and practise your ups/downs turns, sense of direction get the basics out ther way first then slowly do more when you feel more comfortable,

I have a DJl mini2 se.
I still haven’t flown it.
I have passed my CAA. I passed it before I even got a drone.
Steve.

Welcome @BigSteve I’m glad people have responded in the vacinity. There are quite a few of us close to you I think. I’m near Coalville, and have been looking to expand my places of flight for some time now.
@ben-s has some good points, there are a few things that probably need to be done.

Welcome to the forum and the hobby, let us know how you’re getting on
