My name is Antonio, and I’m originally from the North of Portugal, but I’m currently living in Rochdale. After getting hooked on flying my DJI Mini 3 drone, I did some research and discovered this fantastic community.
I’m hoping to connect with a few other drone enthusiasts in the Rochdale area.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.
And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.
I guess I was lucky; my family and I were warmly welcomed in the UK. I find the English to be very easygoing, and they truly embrace the idea of enjoying life. The biggest difference compared to my countrymen seems to be the global mindset everyone has, with a broad perspective beyond national borders.
On the downside, I feel there is an endemic lack of respect for others, which can be seen in the litter in gardens, disabled parking spaces being occupied, and the disregard for simple traffic rules.
On the downside comments you are living in the wrong place, for example London is one of the loneliest places you can be.
Try living in the Country side where deer, mole and rabbits are your problems, and herself has to make cakes for the local village hall, or else !!
All your downsides would not be relevant, people take a pride in their surroundings. The one downside is in talking a stranger whilst walking on a country road, takes you half hour to get away !
I don’t know Portugal, but I did a yacht race to the Azores in 1983 from Falmouth, known as AZAB 83 (Azores and back race), happens every 4 years. Two weeks each way and a week on the Azores. Donkeys with Milk Containers, biggest cattle I have ever seen, and the greenery the greenest ever. Fanatstic Tuna steaks, Barracuda in carts, you name it, great people.
What an adventure!
Azores is definitely on my bucket list, especially now that I have a drone in my backpack. I’m glad you felt welcome there—those islands have a rich sea and sailor tradition.
I lived in Angola for 11 years and spent a lot of time at sea with friends who had boats. Tried marlin fishing too, never had any luck, but the memories are priceless.
I live near Rochdale train station. I am flying my Mini 3 in Blackburn where I work, but I got the Mini 4 Pro a week ago and can’t wait to try it out. Do you know any nice spots nearby for the initial flights?
Not too far from me, I have thornham lane near me which I used for my initial flights because it’s very open full of fields. You’ve also got tandle Hills which isn’t too far.
Bet you could get some nice shots of Rochdale town hall. Just be careful they have a peregrine falcon that nests during the summer months so not sure if it would still be there or not.
