Hello from a Newbie novice from Stoke on Trent

Hi all, im Ken from Stoke, im retired and 62 years of age, i know this because its on my passport and driving license plus my children love to remind me im getting old and have i done my will yet, bless them (its all going to my Wife). Talking of Wife her names Ellen and she is a darlin, she’s my rock, my confidant my best buddy in the world and i adore her, weve been together forever, we have 4 beautiful Daughters ages 37, 35, 33, 30 and in turn they have given us 14 Grandchildren so you know where much of our time is spent, yep you got it, hiding in the loft conversion pretending to be out but with 3 Westies is hard work as there snitches and give the game away, but the younger Grandchildren love the game so alls good.

Ok I bought myself a mini 4 pro combo fly more with 2 years care refresh, upgraded to C1 and got my operator and fly ID too.
I have bought lots of extras, clip on landing skid with built in led’s, Neewer ND & CPL Filter set, shade cover that clips over RC2, gives it great protection, set of clip on remote led’s multi colours, waterproof hard-case, waterproof back pack originally for cameras but great for drones too, also waterproof shoulder padded bag that can fit everything i need for a few hours out flying. I bought extra batteries too so can now carry 7 max i also bought portable chargers so recharge as i go. Bought a clip on foam set too, can use if grounds very wet or filming over water, bright orange foam so not gonna loose that in a hurry, obviously a large foldaway landing pad, i already got memory SD. Cards but thought best get some 512gb x 4.
I think a new laptops needed as mines ancient& and far too slow but for now i can use my ipad 9th gen 512gb with a multi socket to connect to many things. I got myself a clip on bodycam just to stay safe, upyou dont know these days who’s about or there intensions and so i bought a couple of foldaway hiking sticks, good for self defense.

Oh yea i just bought a dji mini 3 fly more with RC1 for pittance, it was advertised on market place but no one was interested so i sent a very very soft offer that they accepted, so was thinking can take one ofvthe older Grandchildren with me to fly too. and no Ellen’s not interested in drones one bit but if it gets me out the house then shes happy.

Ok thats about it for me, think you know more about me than my next door mate Jack who my football rival as hes Tottenham & im NEWCASTLE UNITED - HWTL :clap:t4::clap:t4::clap:t4:

Hi Ozone, thats a great welcome thanks, so much to read up on and so many great topics too plus the challenges is a great idea.
Im all legal with my licence to fly and operators id plus i got legal insurance cover plus 2 years care refresh on my mini 4 pro but not the mini 3.
I am so much a newbie ive yet to get out and fly either of them yet as i struggle with mobility plus its been far too cold for me to go out.
I bought them with the idea to get myself mobile a bit as i rarely go out as is, had a bad time being hurt n ended up loss of use of left eye, 9 operations, they cut from left to right ear over top of my head then pulled my face off to gain access to multiple fractures of my skull now got plates n screws holding together, smashed eye socket n cheekbone, fractured spineand crushed lower vertebrae hey but im still here eh !

Great intro and welcome to G A D C. You have gone all in with your purchases. I do hope the drone gets you out and about. Drones are a good reason to get you out of the house (flying indoors may make Ellen want to convert your drone into a bag of pieces, especially if it started re designing all your property in the house. This is a great club as I say a lot of times and many times I tell people how much I enjoy being a part of such a great group.
Has Ellen taken to the sky and did not like it or does not like the idea. I know someone who’s other half did not like the idea. They had a go with the drone and they ended up getting another one as they would not put it down.
Wish you all the best fun with it. Will not be long before someone from your area gets in touch and you can meet some people.
Welcome and enjoy

Thanks for that, naaaa Ellen did try RC helicopter flying but sadly she lost control and we lost the heli too, brand new it was :frowning: she said never again but hey drones are easier than heli’s arnt they !
As for flying a drone indoors i would not trust myself till ive had some decent practice outside.
Think i might try my mini 3 on first flight n if i snuff it then not to bad but would hate to snuff my mini 4 pro on first flight :grimacing::weary:.
Ive dropped a pin on members map n filled out the profile so folk will know im about.
Cheers n laters

I have not flown a Heli yet… @Hotrodspike will no doubt change that at some point. Hopefully when she sees you flying and see’s how easy it is then may give it a go.

Indoors is not as great with drones as here is limited Satalite (if any and you then have to rely on re adjusting it when it goes off course a bit). A good way for dusting. Just get an air filer on full fly your drone about… lol

I still own a fair few heli’s but only the smaller ones a can mess about with indoors but the dogs go nuts as they follow me everywhere. They can be flown outside but has to be no breeze or you loose them in the wind, just Ellen did haha … never did find it but gps has changed all that now which is great.
My health not so good so has to be a good day to get up n out to fly the drone, im nervous but it will happen soon.
