Hi all, I took a rush to the head after Xmas and bought myself a Potensic Atom SE. It’s a brilliant drone with a great community and even better customer support.
I’m a bit of a gadget lover and tinkerer and my aim is to combine hobbies so the drone is just one step of this process. I want to create 3D models of drone footage and so far I’ve had some decent success. Below is Giant’s Ring Dolmen in South Belfast which I converted using Polycam and since 3D printed this:
I also do a bit of developing, I mostly do Android/ Kotlin but I have delved into Unity. The potential for all this is creating AR apps for a mobile phones or sticking the models into an Oculus Quest and walking around them/ create games from them. I’ve experience with both of these. I’ve only scratched the surface in all this so the possibilities are endless. I might even try and make a side hustle from it.
Bank Holiday today so I’ll go and fly somewhere and make a model from it.
I’m a flying noob but I’ll gain experience so looking forward to reading what everyone else is up to.

It was 78 images from video footage using a Potensic Atom SE (I could have got away with just a camera TBH). I used Shotcut + Ctrl, Shift + W to grab each image so they aren’t even the highest quality. Images were put into the free version of Poly.cam which spat out the model as a .GLB. I then put the model into Blender (well, my Son did) and turned it into a .STL for printing.
I was so impressed with Polycam, I paid for a year’s subscription.
That’s even more impressive for using video frames!
The Poly.cam Pro features look good.
Captures from 2,000 frames or 30 minutes of video.
Will be interesting to see what you do with it.
