Bought a Neo (no controller) on a whim a few weeks ago as my first drone, which I barely used as it was so loud… but it was kinda fun, so bought a Mini 4 Pro Fly More and so far it’s great!
Any locals got recommendations for good places to practice flying? I see the map, but want somewhere quiet to start

Hi Yezzer,
I see that you are from Brighton. I lived there most of my life so know the area fairly well. You could head out to Devil’s Dyke if you want some open space. Just take care if there are paragliders flying nearby. Other than that the Mini 4 can be flown most places so you could take it down to the beach at a quiet time. if you want something more dramatic head down to the cliffs past the Marina, or Rottingdean Windmill. Check everything out on Dronescene, it provides a great guide to where you can fly and some good ideas for new places to try too. One of my favourite spots is the bottom of the Peacehaven steps. Hardly anyone goes down there and you can fly over the sea or along the cliff face.
I will confess I haven’t flown at the Dyke. Dronescene shows it as a yellow zone with a warning to look out for hang gliders (and more likely these days paragliders). Maybe less risk at Stanmer park which shows no warnings. If you head off into the hills at the back of the park you can find some very quiet areas. Also there is the car park up on hill in Woodingdean if you want to fly over the Downs, or Bazehill Road in Rottingdean - leads to a very remote area with few people around.
Hi there! I’m in Brighton too! Me & a mate got ourselves a DJI Mini 3 & Neo. Did have an FPV miniwhoop but lost the drone, (schoolboy error…) so need to replace that. We usually fly either Preston Park or East Brighton park but up by the cafe, (gotta watch for Air Ambulance chopper in lower bit sometimes!) Also been flying around the bandstand on seafront by West Pier cos its super fun trying to fly round & through it!
Its cool there, loads of open space but also trees & football goalposts to razz around! Ha ha ha! I only fly in the top part, away from Wilson Ave cos occassionally the Air Ambulance lands in the bottom park. Its not a no-fly zone as its rare the chopper comes in, but better safe than sorry & i always land ASAP if it does appear! Great flying up over the ridgeline too, got some great pics of Brighton & marina!
