Hi all. Just purchased a DJI and new to it all. I want to get used to flying before travelling and trying out new things. Is there a good place either in Chelmsford or Braintree that’s a good open space with great views

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

Seems great. Just seems so many rules can’t fly here or council says no in there areas and parks.

I’m guessing you’ve tried or done your own bit of research,
I’ve just tried having a look at their specific bylaws etc, however when I click on the link I get this, tried further searching but to no avail,

That’s the one. I was going to try and go over to highlands later. As it’s apparently not allowed but is allowed.
Think I’m just going to try my luck and see how I get on maybe

Have you been doing your research using the FOI on the clubs dronescene ?

I did look there and also on websites. I tried to call a few places and got no answer either.
On club site it says it may gather crowds so be careful but apparently council says they do not permit
But I’m sure if I follow the law they can’t cause to much except ask me to leave.

You got about as far as me then, from what I can see but couldn’t get no further due to the error page not found ( which I think ) relates to their parks / recreational etc / bylaws,
Maybe just try & find an open space somewhere that’s not a park ?
There are a few places also on DS where people have flown, maybe worth a look if you haven’t yet,

That’s all we can do. Tad confusing at some points while looking. I know on the group there is someone there today till 3 flying at highlands I’ve just seen
