Hello from Copthorne West Sussex

Hello,

I am very interested in getting into the drone hobby. I have looked at many but would very much appreciate input and help from this community. I want to ensure I follow all the rules and develop my skills as I go.

Any input/clubs/guidance appreciated before I push the button on the Mavic 3 Cine.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Marcus

Welcome once again!

Welcome to GADC :wave:t2:

Interesting choice for a first drone @Mdorling - what led you to that make and model?

Hi Marcus - welcome to GADC :+1: :+1: :+1:

Welcome to GADC Marcus.
Always good to see new members.
As @PingSpike has said, that is an interesting choice for a first drone.
Are there reasons that you have picked that particular drone. ??
Rob

Welcome Marcus to GADC

@Mdorling Hi Marcus Welcome to GADC

Hi Marcus, welcome from the Black Country.
If I was you, I’d definitely start with something a little bit more simple to learn on before spending thousands of your hard earned on a Mavic 3 Cine, which is definitely a professional drone meant for professional users/film makers.
But, on the other hand if you buy a 3 Cine, I’ll lend you my Mini 2 to learn on and I’ll fly the Mavic 3 (just to keep the batteries in good order) :grinning: :grinning: :grinning:

Hello,

I simply picked this drone as I have followed DJI since the original Mavic and as a keen photographer and former Apple employee the Mavic 3 Cine with ProRes ticked all my boxes.

Fingers crossed they get all the issues ironed out soon for you :frowning:

Hello Hotrodspike,

That is a very kind offer. It has been a long while and I am not sure if it helps but I used to fly radio controlled planes and helicopters back in the day.

Happy for you to fly the Mavic when I get it. I am intending to buy it with the optional 2 year cover from DJI.

Camera wise I use a Canon R5, awaiting the R1 “some what delayed” accompanied by L series lenses - hence the bias towards the ProRes version of the Mavic 3. I may be wrongly assuming that flight characteristics wise there is no difference between the Mavic 3 and Cine version.

My real focus is finding people in the know who have passion for the hobby and are willing to share knowledge.

Kind regards

Marcus

Hello milkmanchris,

Exactly the kind of information I was hoping to gain from this forum. I am not aware of the issues. If it was Canon mirrorless camera’s I could write you a long list but, still swear by them.

Apart from the obvious issue of crashing and writing off the drone, one of my concerns is the classification markings that still appear to be up in the air. Crashing would be my fault but the Mavic 3 Cine not securing a classification for January 2023 would be out of my control.

Kind regards

Marcus

They’ve said all along that drones won’t be classified retrospectively.

Crashes don’t happen often, DJI have a track record of releasing products that are not ready and taking many months to get them sorted.

The biggest issue is batteries and DJI stopping producing them too soon.

Get plenty and look after them

Noted on the batteries. I do not want to end up with a chocolate tea pot
