I’m thinking of getting into drones in the new year for the purpose of traveling the country and seeing it from a unique point of view. I think I probably need all the help I can get when it comes to no-fly zones as my area appears on some warning areas: nearing the Salisbury plain is the obvious reason, but should that stop me from flying in my local village of West Lavington? That is where I am unsure. I am also up for meeting new people who share the hobby to teach me lots!

Hi Callum @Callumclark007 and welcome to GADC
Welcome to the group, your in the right place for help/info
They are Danger Areas. I.e. “we recommend you do not operate your drone here”.
Unlike Flight Restriction Zones, which are more “we will find you and lock you up for life if you fly your drone here”.
Salisbury Plain is one giant Danger Area, but how many drone photos and videos of Stonehenge have we seen? Half my locations are in Danger Areas. I just keep a look out and be on guard for any risks, that’s all.
@Callumclark007 Hi Callum welcome to the madhouse, youll love it here. Used to pass through Devizes whilst visiting work locations. Beautiful place I must say.
Thanks I was thinking this. I think keeping track of where you are and using common sense should be enough for a sensible individual using a drone in the danger areas.
Hi Callum - welcome to GADC
@Callumclark007 Hi Callum welcome to the club
Hi Callum.
I’m in Calne. Mini2 drone.
I haven’t flown it in the Salisbury Danger areas.
The DAs are generally activated by NOTAM.
I fly microlights out of Yatesbury and have found Range Control very helpful. Telephone number is on the screenshot. A screenshot of where and when you might like to fly, ID details etc, in an email to them might be useful.
It could have been you that I encountered whilst filming in Cherhill a couple of years back
