Been a aviation fan since I was a kid growing up in South East London and as I’ve got older I’ve realised that becoming a PPL holder is never going to be possible unless I win the lottery or somesuch. So I’ve been looking at drones on and off for quite a few years but have never got around to buying one. However, my old man bought himself one as a retirement present (Mavic Pro) a few years ago and has only flown it once so I’m “borrowing” it. Only had it in the air once since picking it up at the start of the week but am already hooked and mightily annoyed at the awful weather!
Already looking at how to fund a drone of my own and also looking at the options for A2 CoC as there is only so much countryside around here (not a car owner, which really limits range) and would like to continue to fly the Mavic Pro but closer to built up areas. Looking at getting a DJI Mini Pro 4 in the future.
Anyway, found this club through YouTube (@ianinlondon) and am happy i did, it’s a pleasure to be here and meet you all!

Welcome to Grey Arrows from t’other side of Manchester! Hope you enjoy the forum / club as much as the rest of us…
There us a Group Northwest of locals who meet up quite regularly, we were in Skelmersdale at Beacon Country Park Yesterday - not having personal transport could be a bind, but if there is a spot over your way we could meet and fly then perhaps we could come to you?
Fantastic little village … was over there yesterday for a short flight (Above the old paint works) but had issues with the rc/phone connection (and a hailstorm and heavy rain!) so had to call it a day.
Thanks for the welcome!
definitely looking to head to a meetup, if just for flying tips.
Lack of a car does cause some issues but I use a bike as my main form of transport (spent too many years driving for a living to sit in North West traffic), other than the train. There are some amazing places around these here parts for flying (also lots of National Trust land so tricky to take off/land) so a meetup over this way could work.
Coolio, if you check out the Groups page - under the 3 lines burger menu - then post up some suggestions of where we could fly, then we can arrange it…
Welcome, from Oldham! Agree about the weather! Haven’t been able to fly my DJI Mini 2 much since November!! Can’t wait for a change and get out flying again. Where I live, there is a lot of countryside which is great from a learning to fly perspective. Use the space to really get to know how to fly your drone properly and safely, how to are videos/photos etc. I did the A2COC and learned a lot - check out the UAVHub course- recommend their course. Enjoy.
Hi and welcome @Hobo Neil. I was born and bred in Glossop. But now living a bit further north in Morecambe. But I still pop down frequently as my mum still lives in Glossop.
You have some stunning scenery to film wether you head up Woodhead, Snake pass or Chunal…
