Hello to you all from (a sunny) High Wycombe. I must confess to lurking for a while, getting to know my way around the forum and I’ve been a bit shy to post until now.
I’m relatively new to drones and have just managed to pass my A2 CofC this morning. Thanks to @UAVHub for producing the most amazing training course.
I’m looking forward to participating in the forum and discovering where to fly around here - lots of FRZs around which restricts things a tad! I’m hoping someone who lives in the area can help with this …
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.
And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.
Hi and welcome @ClaireD Congrats on passing your A2 CofC. You’re not far from me, I live in Marlow Bottom, so just over the hill, figuratively speaking, but definitely not within VLOS
Thank you for the warm welcome. This forum is so friendly, it’s great.
Thank you @DeanoG60 for the recommendations. I must admit I’ve been having a bit of a potter about to learn the ropes and have come across those links - good to know I’m heading in the right direction.
I’ll pop my pin in the Members Map.
Hello, @R3SKT Steve, you’re not too far from me at all - I’m in the vicinity of junction 4. I gather there is a HW Model Aircraft Club nearby?
Not heard of the HW Model Aircraft Club, but that wouldn’t surprise me to find that there was one. So, J4, you’re nicely tucked into the FRZ for Booker Airfield then I just clip the outer reach by a good 100 metres or so. When I contacted ATC at Booker they were OK with me flying from my home point, providing I flew out and away. Asked me to ring them when I was going to launch during office hours, but after hours they weren’t bothered about being notified
I’ve wandered down to the Rye on a couple of occasions and flown early morning. I’m trying to find places to fly that don’t involve me driving … I’ll see what Booker ATC reckons - so thank you for that info.
Morning @ClaireD
Welcome, l”m just down the M40 and like you under an ATZ - Denham”s.
Also I’ve got Northolt and LHR nearby so I’m always looking for places to fly without having to drive.
Enjoy!
I can remember having to complete a fairly detailed form which clearly identified my home TOAL point, including mean height above sea level, and accurate Lat/Long co-ords etc. Nothing too difficult to bring together, but just a little bit daunting when you first read through the form. Best thing is to give them a ring during normal office hours, they were happy to help (I think they probably have a fair bit of downtime to be honest ).
Drone Scene is your best friend for finding places to fly and to understand what restrictions apply. You could also have a look at Good 2 Go Where can I fly my drone in the UK? - Good 2 Go - Can I fly my drone here?
Enter the details of the drone you want fly and where and Good 2 Go will quickly tell you if you are legal or not and includes options for A2 CofC holders as well
Hi Claire (and also @R3SKT), I’m based in Marlow and happy to know some other local drone users. Would be great to have a chat with you guys sometime about local spots, advice, experiences, etc. Let me know if you’d be interested!
