Hello from Hornsea, East Yorkshire

Hi. Just a quick hello to introduce myself. I’ve been flying drones for quite a few years now. For a while I flew them at work and held a CAA Emergency Services License. I flew The Inspire and the Matrice as well as the Mavic. Now, I’m retired and just fly for fun. My go to drone is my Mini 3 Pro but I have a Tello and every now and then I dust off the phantom for old time’s sake.

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.

There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

Our Associates are able to enjoy a lot of great services for free but our Members are eligible for a whole lot more! Read all the details about our Membership Benefits?

And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.

Welcome once again!

I did it a few years ago now. At work we were looking to see if drones could help us in our specific role. As we were based and worked in a city and BVLOS was a requirement, I and others did a CAA approved course. It was a week long with Lots of practical and theory. There were practical and theoretical assessments at the end. I was only able to use the license when working for the emergency services. I couldn’t use it commercially. We then had further training and CAA assessments for things like night flying and BVLOS. After a couple of years, we decided drones didn’t really make our job easier and we stopped flying.
