Hello from Italy

Hi everyone,
i’m Alberto from Italy. I am a glider pilot and passionate about everything that flies.
Last year I bought a Dji mini 3 pro to take with me on my motorcycle trips.
I’m coming to England on my motorbike in August.
I want to learn as much as possible about the rules and prohibitions of flying UAS in your country, but I can’t find all the necessary information on the maps. In particular about the rules in the SSSi zones along the coasts of southern England. in Italy it’s very simple, we have a unique web portal ( D-Flight) updated daily by ENAC with NOTAM and regulated or prohibited areas.
I already have UK flyer ID and UK operator ID.
I think this group can help me learn what I need to fly safely and by the rules and
I hope also learn to speak English better because today I know it really badly.
Bye
Alberto

Benvenuto, I love Italy used to drive there weekly in the early 2000’s, mainly to Arzignano, oh and Cisterna di Latino in the 90’s, although been all over even down to Sicily and Brindisi.
Enjoy the club, some great experience in here, and enjoy your bike ride when you come over, we have a bikers bar near to me https://www.squires-cafe.co.uk/

Welcome, Alberto. You’ve definitely come to the right place to get ready for your trip :+1:

Since you already have your Flyer ID you will have gone over the basics, but the rules here for a Mini 3 Pro are very similar to your own for a C0 drone under EASA (i.e. don’t fly where there are restrictions and don’t fly over crowds of people).

As @Kirky says, DroneScene is your friend. Have a look at the places you’re planning to visit, see what restrictions they might have and ask as many questions as you need. We won’t bite… mostly.

Hi Alberto,
As others have suggested Drone Scene will show you SSSi sites and other flying restrictions. Clicking on an SSSi area on the drone scene map will take you to the Natural England site which explains the reason for the designation (although you have to dig around a bit sometimes). Quite often the designation is due to rare plant life which won’t inhibit flying there. However if it’s due, for example, to being a habitat for endangered bird life then you shouldn’t fly there. Hope that helps, safe travels and hope you get some great footage!

Hi, and welcome to the GADC @hornet_64 . You have come to the right place for information, this group is a wealth of knowledge, and no question is a silly one. I hope you enjoy your stay in August, maybe one time you visit it will co-inside with one of our BIG MEETS in June or September.

Welcome Alberto. I’m an Australian but recently visited the UK. The Grey Arrows site and Dronescene are a gold mine of great locations and detail on where and if you can fly.

As FlyingBadger has indicated DroneScene should have a link to the SSSI sites but if not here is the link for England:

Wales (although it’s not very reliable) - https://datamap.gov.wales/maps/new?layer=inspire-nrw:NRW_SSSI#/

Scotland - SiteLink

For completeness, here is the National Trust map site. They don’t allow you to TOAL from their property - Discover the National Trust Land Map | National Trust

Quick question for you. I’d plan on visiting Italy next year and will be taking my drone but I’m having difficutly getting access to a map of the allowable flying zones. I have a Mini 3 Pro and don’t do any commercial work. I have an EU Remote Pilot Identifier and my drone is registered in France. Do I need to also register it in Italy? I am also confused wrt the height I can fly. In some publications it says 120m but others say 70m. Any pointers or suggestions greatly appreciated. Happy to take this chat to a different area if not appropriate.

Cheers and enjoy!

Ian
