Hi everyone, new to all this… “myself”, I guess, just like many, thought buying a drone and flying it would be a simple task. So off I set and paid hundreds of pounds for a high-end piece of kit. That was in mid 2023… I took it out the box…set it all up…flew it for all of 10 (yes ten) minutes…and that is as far as I’ve got. Perhaps a litttle too wary of losing something so costly or just plain chicken…I’m not quite sure…just need somewhere quiet and a guiding hand…any and all support will be greatly accepted…thank you

Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

I’m very new to this too Dave. I was so nervous the first time I took to the controls. Taking it really steadily and trying things out in a really safe open space worked well for me. I looked at the criteria the CAA use for their A2 Certificate of Competence test, and worked through that: trying things out with the aircraft between about 5-30m off the ground, in a flat open space, with no obstacles nearby, and light winds. And it worked! My confidence has grown a lot. I’m still cautious, I rarely use ‘Sport’ mode, and stick to ‘Cine’ much of the time, especially when I’m over the area I want to photograph. But confidence comes with practice.
It’s natural to feel a bit apprehensive taking several hundred pounds in to the air, knowing one error could transform it into worthless junk, but I feel this nervousness is a strength, which will help keep you from making mistakes.
