Hello, everyone. I’m new to drones, having recently got a DJI Mini 5 Pro, which I am learning to use. It is a learning curve.
I’m more into photography than video.
The Mini 5 Pro is an amazing piece of technology. I was always put off drones because of the noise, but whilst on holiday at Easter I had two people using drones quite close to me, with hardly any noise, so after watching a load of videos, I now have a drone.
So far I am very happy with the drone, despite the limitations for photography, and the sound, or lack of it, is more than what I was hoping for.

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.
The camera is a fixed aperture, and so that limits options with regard to depth of field and changing shutter speeds.
Most of the time one will want a very fast shutter speed to freeze a subject, minimise drone movement, but I’m keen to get to try moving traffic in low light and light streaks, and that may need to be done with ND filters, and making things slower may mean bringing the drone down to change a filter, rather than simply changing the aperture on a normal camera. This is all speculation atm, as it may be awhile before I go out in low light.
The cameras on drones are mainly aimed at video, understandably, because that is what they are mainly used for. The ‘full’ camera functionality is limited.
If you want the full camera experience, get a massive drone and hang a camera off it.
For variable aperture you need to look at the Mavic series, my old Mavic 2 pro has variable aperture. If you can run to a nice bright n shiny Mavic 4 pro , and accept the flying limitations that go with it, then problem (partly) solved.
Or get a nice new Inspire 3, much of the film in the latest David Attenborough movie was shot using one. Prices start at around £13,000 then you can add various lens options to it. Though you’d again be limited to where you can fly it. If I could afford it I’d love one.
