Hi. I have just found this place and decided to join up. I live in highland Perthshire and been a photographer since I got my first 35mm SLR for my 18th and now, nearly 3 decades later I added a drone to the collection. Had it for around a year now and taken many photos and videos with it. Mostly highland landscapes as I take it in my camera bag any time I go for a trip.
It’s a DJI Mini 4 pro with the RC2 and 3 battery kit. Works very well although some days I do wonder if a larger drone would help with weather resilience so that’s something maybe some of the more learned pilots here can advise. Scotland, not known for great weather, also throws some curve balls for drones. I was flying recently in Glen Lyon, near where I live (flown there many times as near home) and my take off point was near the river Lyon and for the first couple of minutes of flight everything was fine - a bit of buffeting but the drone coped fine. But as is often with mountains you get a funnelling effect of wind accelerating through gaps in rocks or a narrow gorge and the Mini 4 was overwhelmed momentarily. It managed to sort itself out but for a moment I thought it was going to be blown out of control. There was no way of knowing or seeing that there would be such a localised wind there. It may be that an Air or Mavic would have had the same issue, I don’t know but it’s been on my mind since the incident.
That said, the Mini4 is perfect for my camera bag and I wouldn’t swap it - more like an addition. Anyway don’t want to take up the intro place for too much. Nice to see so many enthusiastic flyers…
