I’m Emma, proud owner of a DJI mini SE which I plan to use for photography. I’m based in South Devon so would love to know of any recommended places. I understand Dartmoor is a no-go (not going to lie, I’m gutted but I understand why). Also happy to take advice, tips and recommendations. Loving what the mini can do so far.

I have family in Devon (and I used to live there)
Try Norman Lockyer observatory at sidmouth. I got some nice pics there. Don’t be tempted to fly down into the valley though (unless you can see we’ll) as when I was there, a big helicopter flew in the valley and I was looking down onto the rotas (panicked me a little) but I was actually over the observatory so all good.
For Dartmoor, I’ve been to belstone and then walked past Bernard’s acre onto the moor to fly kites (before I got drone) I think that could be nice on a good day and I think it’s outside of the flight restriction zone.
Welcome Emma you’ll love it here, so many helpful people. I have the same problems with the new forest. If you know someone on Dartmoor or a pub landlord lets you take off and land your all good. I love staying near Totnes and going down to Dartmouth and popping it up over the ferries. Also burge island is a good one. If in doubt footpaths are your friend for take off and landing.
Wasn’t really aware not allowed to fly over Dartmoor…flown in a few great locations but have always been careful where and when etc.
Just enjoy Emma and have fun while being careful and respectful, joining GADC already says you are!
Been to north Dartmoor recently and flew my Mini 2 near Haytor rocks and also over the clapper bridge at Postbridge. Only restrictions on Altitude Angel was near the prison, the firing ranges and glider site near Tavistock.
Hi, I was born in Plymouth, don’t live there now, but visit occasionally. I’ve flown Plymouth Hoe, Mount Batten Pier, Hooe Lake, Burgh Island, East Portlemouth (Salcombe), Saltash Bridge, Calstock Viaduct and Brentor (Nr Tavistock). I also have quite a list of places I want to fly in the future, both in South Devon and Cornwall.
Of course, always careful re TOAL but have to admit to once or twice TOAL landing from NT areas BUT quiet ones without causing anyone or anything issues.
