Hello from Swinton, Mancland

Hello everyone!

Long time lurker, first time poster, originally signed up to Grey Arrows as a member to take advantage of the insurance offer and to throw a few quid into the competitions.

After buying a friend’s semi functional Mavic 2 Zoom, I became hooked with the concept and have since decided to invest in a Mavic 4 Pro at Christmas - what a machine!

Just passed my A2 licensing examination today with Heliguy, doing all my training in Gibfield Park near Atherton, Manchester after seeing a suggestion from another member of this group. It’s really muddy up there!

I am looking forward to learning more about photography from this perspective, and love the idea of using WebODM for photogrammetry (I wish DJI would open up the RC2 to 3rd party apps for simplifying waypoint plotting) but my goal right now is to find as many places around the area to learn how to fully use this platform without incurring the wrath of the CAA, before moving on to more advanced inspection work, which will hopefully justify the costings around an uplift to a GVC.

When not cursing the never ending inclement weather or neglecting my bike, I work in cloud telecoms and have a background in networks, broadband support, implementation and optimisation.

Looking forward to attending a meetup at some point, always open to feedback, learning any new tips and tricks and contributing to the community wherever possible.

Thanks

Andy :clinking_beer_mugs:

Hi @v1n1984 and welcome to Grey Arrows officially, and thank you for moving from lurker status :wave:t2:

Looking for recommendations of places to fly? Check out our interactive map on Drone Scene and please feel free to add locations of your own too

Wondering whether you can fly a particular model of drone under particular circumstances? Check out Good 2 Go where you’ll soon find the answer

Have you seen our Members Map? You may find some members living near you.

Feel free to add yourself to the members map too!

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.

There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.

Welcome once again!
