Hi
On holiday at the moment and just want to fly around the farm im staying on, (its ok with landowner).
However i’m getting a yellow symbol pop up saying “flight restrictions” , as i am at lands end.
it says i can apply for self unlocking to access this zone but every time i click yes all i get is “verify user information failed.” incorrect imput . error code (-1009).
What does this mean and what can i do to be able to fly while on holiday ???
Thank you
Bill
You’re probably within the FRZ for Land’s End Airport. Land’s End itself and the cliffs around Porthcurno are not in this zone, but it starts only a hundred yards or so inland, so the farm you are camping on might well be inside it. The map on Drone Scene will give you the precise infomation.
Most of the coast is covered by SSSIs, but bird nesting is over, so this should not be a problem.
Update the DJI Fly app and the Fly safe database
If you’re within the big spikey ball on the left you will need to get permission from the ATC
When was the last time you updated the flysafe database? Assuming you are flying a DJI of some sort, of course?
Hi and thanks
I’m just up by Trevedra farm so well in the red.
Drone is a mavic pro platinum and not up dated the fly safe database for a while, will this help and how do i go about doing it ???
You would need to update the flysafe database. BUT, you will also need to contact the tower for permission to fly as you are smack bang in the middle of Lands End FRZ. Get caught flying in there without permision and you could land in some very hot water. But of course, I am not the drone police, although you might make the 9 o’clock news as their headline!!!
I know you have been a registered member for a wee whiley, but you might want to check out THIS before you attempt to take off?
Non of us are, but as a community we can educate the new comers
Hi and thanks for the link, trying to update the flysafe database but to do this do i need to connect the drone to the i-pad i use by a cable or will it do it if i just turn the controller and drone ???
Happy to learn mate
Your iPad ( If you’re using it as a screen connected to your controller), will also need to be connected to the internet
@JockyB has it spot on. You will need internet connection, get everything connected up as if you’re going for a flight, go into the app settings and update the flysafe database, you might also have to update the app itself, I’m not sure? You will still get a warning when taking off, but take off you can.
My experience, and that of many others, is that the guys in the tower are usually very happy to here from us before we fly, and permissions to fly are usually granted. Contacting them lets them know we’re not dicks and are responsible flyers.
Lands End ATC people are incredibly helpful with this sort of thing when I’ve contacted them.
If you email them at atc@islesofscilly-travel.co.uk and outline what you’re wanting to do, when and where they will send you a form back to complete and then ask that you give them a call before you fly and again when you’ve finished.
They have always been really quick to respond but it may not be the same day.
Just to say a big thank you to all the people who replied and helped me.
Updated Mavic and i-pad and then managed to get permission from DJI to fly where i am, only really wanted to fly low on beach so managed that successfully.
Thanks again Bill.
From DJI?
Did you contact the kind folks at the ATC?
Well ???,
After doing updates (drone and I-pad), turned everything on and got a “your in a restricted zone, Lands end, message”, in dji go4 app on i-pad, and it asked me if i wanted to apply for permission to fly, tapped yes, it asked me what country i was in and for a phone number, gave that and got a text with a code to enter, did that and then got asked three questions, would i fly safe and be responsable etc, ticked yes and 3 mins later cleared to fly, no calling air traffic control on nothing, hope this makes sense ???
It does, and therein lies the problem, unfortunately. If you’re in a FRZ you really…
Actually I cant be arsed anymore because all the info you needed was above, but you chose to ignore half of it. Last time I give out any info and advice, job done
No, not really.
Every reply here has been telling you that you’re in a FRZ and that you need to get permission from the tower.
Did you fly your drone in a FRZ without getting approval from ATC?
God help us were DJI to ever get ANY powers to give permission for flying in UK Airspace!!! … or in any other country!
We may have fucked up Brexit - but the UK has not subrogated this function to a Chinese drone company!
Have you even read the drone code
