Hi Everyone, My name is Bob, live near Mere in Wiltshire. I’m old enough to remember dial-up telephones, TVs with cathode ray tubes that weighed a ton, sat-navs as big as your fist.
Now all this is on a PCB about 2 inches by one and weighs 20 grams.
So now I can soar as free as a bird…..
…provided I stay below 120 meters, keep away from crowds, read the Notams, duck down when helicopters come over! Etc etc. Hey-Ho.
Just bought a second hand mini 4k.
Managed to get airborne last week ( bulldog clip job as I’d never flown a drone before). Managed a hand launch, went up to see how high my house is, and the tall trees around.
I only went a little way from the house for clearance, did a gymbal up and down.
Did a stationary 360, and a RTH. Hand landing OK, and I’ve still got all my fingers.
Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.
And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.
Hi Everyone. Many thanks to all for the welcome, I’ve had so many replies that I can’t reply to all individually. I’ve taken the advice I read somewhere to watch ten videos re drones and then watch ten more. There’s a plethora if information out there, when you’ve sorted through the unimportant.
I’m on the learning curve now.
Regards, Bob (Merecat)
