Hi from Scotland — FPV drone builder, carbon frame design and custom builds

Hi everyone,

My name is Pavlo. I’m based in Scotland and I’m interested in FPV drones, custom drone builds, and carbon frame design.

I design drone frame models, cut carbon fibre parts myself, and build FPV drones from separate components. I’m especially interested in freestyle, bando, long-range, and custom experimental builds.

At the moment, I’m working on a few different projects, including strong 5-inch freestyle frames and larger long-range drones. I also enjoy testing different components, frames, motors, video systems, and 3D printed parts.

I joined Grey Arrows to learn more from the UK drone community, share my builds, and hopefully connect with other people who are interested in FPV and custom drone projects.

Thanks for having me here!

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.

There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

Our Bronze Members are able to enjoy a lot of great services for free but our Silver and Gold Members are eligible for a whole lot more! Read all the details about our Membership Benefits?

And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.

Welcome once again!

Welcome Pavlo,
Now that is some sweet looking carbon fibre bodywork. Very professional. Saw your 3 bladed prop build… I am playing with an F450 Hawkworks build with various changes - last week changed from origional 2 blade 9450’s to 3 blade 1050’s (9.4" x 5 twin blades to 10" x 5 tri blades). Results were interesting .. 2 blades felt ‘slushy’ and pid changes seemed to have little effect whilst tri blades were definately ‘snappier’ and response felt much sharper. To compensate for the notable drop in flight time (higher power draw) I upped the 3S 4200 to a 4S 5400 lipo, which did not fit inside the frame, so I slung it underneeth. The resulting handling was more like cornering with a pendulum so the frame had to be modded to accomadate larger lipo. End result.. a very satisfactory snappy but shorter flight time, warm battery and motors (not burning but not comfortable..). Now going back to 2 blades with sloppy response, but more in keeping with my flying. I will probably move to somthing racier as my skill level improves. Happy flying Pavlo!

Hello, and thank you very much for your comments.

I’m not familiar with the Hawk’s Work drone, but from what I have read, it runs on ArduPilot. I’m not very familiar with that firmware, as my FPV journey started with Betaflight.

My first drone was a small Mobula 8, and it was great fun flying it indoors. My second drone, however, was a 13-inch build with T-Motor MN4014 motors. For some reason, I decided to jump straight into building a large drone.

I had a lot of problems during the build and the first flights, but that drone taught me a lot about detailed drone setup and tuning. I have now rebuilt my 13-inch drone with new BrotherHobby 4115 490KV motors. I did this to get more confident thrust, because I like flying over the sea in strong wind, and also in high mountain areas where it can be very windy.

I cut a few freestyle and bando frames for myself, and I’m currently building a drone specifically for that purpose.

Welcome to GADC @Kingseer

You’ve definitely joined the right forum, to gather information about the FPV hobby and build relationships with other FPV pilots.

Myself, I’ve been flying FPV for just over 18 months, after starting out with the Avata 2 and since then members have been a fantastic support, not only with learning to fly FPV, but also repairing the quads once I’d crashed them.
