I have wanted a drone for a few years but between work and triathlons didn’t have any spare time. Just turning 61 and will be easing back on sport and looking to retire from work. Hoping the M4P will keep me occupied and rekindle my photography passion.
Been flying for a few weeks mostly around the harbour. Still get very nervous every time it goes up but its starting to ease.

Confidence comes with experience but it’s good not to become complacent, always have that little frisson of concern when you fly.
I’m nearby, on Hayling but confined to an area within walking distance from home at the moment until DVLA pull their finger out. There 's plenty to see in the harbour and a lot of good flying sites close to Portsmouth (and a few restricted areas too).
Above is a quick look at the area with some of the Flight Restriction Zones ,marked in red, recommended flying sites as blue position markers and splodges of purple indicating Crown Estates land - mainly foreshore. Crown Estates are fine with flying (and metal detecting) as long as you follow the relevant codes of practice.
Hey David @Pilot_Sharpy Welcome to the GADC from a member living in North End and who used to live in Southsea!…small world isn’t it
Go careful around the harbour especially when any of the Carriers are in…MOD plod can get very emotional and protective
Getting more confident with your drone will come with further experience which fortunately brings further enjoyment of your new hobby. Like you I wanted to try flying a drone and now, several years later, I’m on my third drone ( through natural progression not unfortunate incidents luckily) and am completely addicted to it!
We will have to meet up and see if we can explore the area…I must admit I love flying around Eastney especially near the Lifeboat Station.
