Hi from sunny-ish Fife

Hi there. Alan Stewart from Fife in Scotland here. I’m retired and married to a lady who is only too happy to encourage me in a hobby which takes me out of the house - no idea why this is so :slight_smile: I’m new to this club but have been flying drones for a few years now.

I started with an inexpensive lightweight one (can’t remember the brand) then went on to own a Phantom 3 Standard. Unfortunately this one unilaterally decided to become a submarine, and I replaced it with the Advanced model.

That served me well until recently when a series of failures rendered it unfixable. So, I’m now awaiting delivery of a DJI Air 3.

Looking forward to being a part of the group. Oh, and I should also like to state that I am not, never have been and never will be, a fan of Dunfermline Athletic F.C.

Have you seen our Members Map? You may find some pilots living near you. Feel free to add yourself to the members map too :+1:t2:

We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.

Well, I just got myself a brand-new DJI Air 3. Everything is charged up, registered, linked etc. etc. That’s the good news. Sadly, the weather is not cooperating - high winds, 100% cloud cover and rain forecast (or ‘Summer’, as we call it in Scotland).

Oh well…

I’m off to Uist on Friday - I’ve decided not to take my drone given the usual winds, cloud cover etc etc. It’s a shame as growing up in Scotland I recall June as always being a month of good weather as it was when I was taking my exams :rofl:

Im glad it’s not just me.

In the last few months I’ve told quite a few people first half of June is always good and it’s became a running joke with the weather we are getting.

I’ve just returned to Derby, from a short stay with my cousin in Tillycoultry. Aye the weather was a bit of a problem. Only flew my drone one day (Thursday at the Kelpies and various towers around Clacks )

Yesterday was the first day since I got my new Air 3 (over a week ago) that I was able to actually go out and fly it. Today, it’s back to wind and rain again, and the forecast for the next few days isn’t wonderful either. Maybe I should think about migrating to somewhere warmer - and drier!

As if to rub it in, Facebook has just reminded me that 14 years ago today I was coming down off Mount Sinai, having climbed it overnight, in temperatures of around 35 degs…

Thanks Jocky. I know (or rather, knew) Tillicoultry quite well. My uncle Bert was one of the local cops. He and his family stayed above the old police station, and I used to visit quite a lot. I seem to recall long, hot summers, back in the mid 60s or so.
