Hi From Sunny Sussex haha but its raining 😧

Just thought i would say hi to everyone
I’ve not got a drone yet but i really do want one, I’m thinking of getting a DJI Mavic air 2.
I live in rural Sussex and have no car. I have farmland all around me so if i get a drone there is noway for me to fly it other than over farm land, they grow crops weat corn maze etc… but the farmer is really not a nice person and there are loads and loads of “keep out private” signs all over his land wish is fine its his land after all but im going to guess he would not like any drones over it.

I did a check on this website and it states “Good news” i can fly over the farmland if im more than 50miters away from people.

So looks like i might be getting a drone soon, but before i do i was just wondering if there is anything else i should be worried about as i dont want to buy it then find out i cant fly it anywhere near me.

Would love some info on this just to settle my mind.

Hi and welcome to GADC

You might want to check the this thread as it covers the new rules in detail.

As well as our very own, brand new Good 2 Go which will answer where you can fly with specific equipment and qualifications.

Good choice on the MA2 a very capable drone.

That’s put a spanner in the works lol
I don’t think i would be allowed to use a MA2 then as its to heavy and 150m away from buildings means i would not even be able to take off. I’m not interested in people or their gardens i just want to wonder the countryside getting some wildlife footage so i think i will have to go with a dji mini 2.
Them over 250g laws are very shady to me and i don’t want any problems with my Neighbors or the police. The main reason for me wanting a MA2 was the camera reliable distance and fly time. :anguished:

MA2 will be ok for you if its non urban and you’re not near peoples.

Its rural countryside but it does have footpaths that people could be using so i put that down as flying above people it’s a bit of a grey area so was unsure.

Hi David, Welcome! & enjoy the good info’ and banter you will receive (if you want it). I’m in Horsham so fairly close to you.

Yes I visit Horsham regularly when not in lockdown

If you don’t already have one, get an OS Map of the area and see where the footpaths are. You’d be ok to launch from a footpath (I believe) providing all other aspects of the regs are complied with ie Drone Type/Crowds etc

I think I may have added footpaths to Drone Scene earlier this week. Don’t quote me on that yet… Can someone zoom in real close to an area they know and confirm?

Most county councils have an online version of their Definitive Rights of Way maps.

I know that Hampshire, Wiltshire and West Sussex do (thanks to planning outings for the 3rd GADC Birthday Challenge  )

These tell you the type of RoW - footpath, bridleway, byway open to all traffic (BOAT) etc.

Hampshire at least have 1:10000 OS sheets available:

Footpaths not showing up here

So im ok to fly a mavic air 2 then and this is my plan.
I want to take off from my garden to go over the fields for some wildlife video then return to my back garden. Myself i will not leave my own home.
I’ve uploaded a map of where i would like to fly and i don’t see any NFZ anywhere near there.! Have added the area i want to fly, and it’s all farmland for growing crops they do also shoot pheasants that they keep in a pen and release them October to February not sure if that would impact on ant rights.

Overflying roads ?

Your gamekeeper may complain that the drone scares his pheasants as it appears to them as a bird of prey/ I’ve heard that before (from a nature reserve regularly overflown by coastguard and military helicopters!)

Yes would need to fly over that b road near the “H”
