New drone user. Got my first DJI Mini 4 Pro on Weds. Much excitement. I had a Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 about 10 years ago. I asked my wife if I should claim I am a drone pilot with +10 years experience… the answer was quite short.
It’s quite overwhelming both the rules and how complex these machines are, although the forum section here is great - already answered some questions. Got my Flyer ID, Operator ID and insurance. Strangely fixated on red/yellow reflective tape videos on YT.
Have also seen link to the 15 exercises by UAV Coach which is fab.
Also interested in the social and meet-up side of the hobby so will look more into that when I’ve worked up a bit of ability.
Now trying to patiently wait for a decent non windy day.
Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.

Cheers! Great to hear from a local! Agreed - loads of places. We get out quite a lot with the woofers and keen to take the drone. Initial thoughts were the Gallops, Roundway and Battlesbury Hill - now I have signed up and checked out those locations I can see it’s going to take a bit of time to understand all the restrictions to make sure I am compliant!
