Highland Stream, Allt an Lagain, Loch Eriboll - DJI AIR3 4K video 60fps

Along the A838 (NC500), between Tongue and Durness, the long road snakes around Loch Eriboll, and at the Choraidh Tearoom there lies a small Highland Stream, Allt an Lagain.

With far-reaching views across Loch Eriboll this small river drops from the higher moors down a series of exposed rock runs and small waterfalls past clumps of bright purple heather flowers - and through one of the first privately built and run Hydro-Electric systems. The water is stained brown with Peat, and some of the exposed rocks are thusly stained red.

Perhaps not as stunning as a large waterfall, but it has its own quiet peace and beauty, and although the wind was on the limits of what was possible on our visit, we managed to make a quick flight up the river to capture this short video, I hope it is enjoyed…

Thank you kindly… The whole area is amazing tbh, so beautiful, there is a photo or video everywhere yu look…

Hi can you tell me your settings please. I’ve just bought an Air 3 and in struggling to film without stuttering on the video. No problem on my mini 4 pro . Great filming

Low level footage - often so very much more interesting than the dozens of examples on YT where the drone is up to a height where sheep become whitish spots and detail can’t be seen. I’ve not been farther North than Osgood Mackenzie’s place but having seen this footage, find I’ll need to address that omission. Successful landscape shots/clips like this can make you wish you could step into the frame, hear the tumbling burn…… And the reversing closure, withdrawing from a higher shot. Nice one.

Hmm, it’s in auto mode, at 60fps and 4k, and I tend to underexpose by 0.3 stop, plus I have a NDCPL8 on the lens.

What are you editing in? I am editing in DaVinci I had an issue with the frame rate being different to the recording rate, which gave me stuttering footage… Perhaps check that is set correctly?

Thanks… yeah, too many folks whack the drone to 400ft and then pan around and nothing more, the footage has to have movement, smoothness and to engage with the landscape, I am more often at 3 to 30 feet agl than I am at 100ft+…

The North Coast is stunning, I need to do the section between Durness and Ledmore, and to do the rest with the drone, as when we last were in Plockton to Ullapool it was before we had the drones…

The reversing shot and reveal was the only footage I had to show that higher section of the burn, and reversing it to make the reveal worked, although I was hoping no–one would spot the waterfalls flowing backwards

If you try flying in this area, watch out for the Eagles though, I had one come close, sadly the footage only caught a very fleeting glimpse…
