INAV stuff

I’ve been wondering why I’ve had difficulties getting magnetometer (compass) working / calibrated properly these past few days then the penny dropped in my old grey matter… :man_facepalming:

With the default settings of:-

  • set mag_declination = 0
  • set inav_auto_mag_decl = ON

you need a good GPS fix 'cos INAV needs to know where you are on the planet to calculate the magnetic declination. which is why in the workshop it wouldn’t settle on a particular direction.

The alternative is to do it manually and get the mag dec figure from >here<
Then for example, Nuneaton, it would be … +0° 5’

  • set mag_declination = 005 >see here<
  • set inav_auto_mag_decl = OFF

Another few hours of my life lost to technology :man_shrugging:

I’ve always inputted it manually. I suppose that’s wrong because you may be on holiday flying.

TBH if you are anywhere in the UK, and us setting it for the midlands, the difference is probably negligible and not enough to worry about :man_shrugging:
