I’ll have it…only joking but my Mini 2 came down in the sea off Studland today, auto returning to home but came down 500+ meters from take off point and that was that. Did think of a rescue mission on a paddle board but half a kilometre out and the tides…where would I have started???
Drone was 2nd hand but as it failed to RTH is it worth dropping DJI an email? Airdata UAV shows it’s demise if they wanted proof.
Any thoughts guys?
Yes I would contact them. It shouldn’t do any harm to ask.
You can save the DJI log from Airdata’s website, in case DJI are interested and want a log. General | Overview. Download: original.
Mine was second hand when it went back, but for a different reason (gimbal).
Thanks BM, I’ll be giving it a try. Just got to figure out how to save the Airdata log etc. Started weekend with a parking fine now ending it with losing the M2🤬
Can you share the Airdata, start a new thread and we will help analyze the data
Away from home PC at moment and working from mobile. TBH I’m not sure how to upload Airdata details anyway.
We can show you how
Excellent, I’ll have to look at this again tomorrow. Driving home now.
Cheers for now
Hello again for the moment this appears to be the link to the fatal flight from Airdata
@SparkyFPV where should the suggested new thread go?
Paul, I created a new post for the loss of your Mini 2
You flew too far out, left it till 40% battery and relied on RTH in high winds instead of sports mode
in the end, you ran out of battery
Indeed… I’m an avid coastal flyer and like to fly out far. However I’ll do my risk assessment at the location based on wind speed and direction. I’m not saying I’m a flying expert but unless you fly on a regular basis on the coast and out to sea, the conditions can catch you out very easily battery power wise. You always have to remember if you need to get back in an emergency, are you flying against a head wind.
I have to ask though… Why did you hit the RTH button prior to receiving strong wind warnings? Just a personal thing for me but I would have flown back manually.
Can only put it down to school boy error, I thought I had returned it to manual to get back in sports mode and was pushing the right stick but hey-ho, obvs got nervous and screwed it up.
Have to say I would have hoped/thought 40% battery would have done the job though.
For what its worth, I am contacting DJI to see if they will be able to do anything for me.
Thanks for the replies so far and those to come.
Now then, how many raffle tickets for a spanking new Mini 3 Pro shall I get???
Losing a drone is gut-wrenching but you live and learn
If you had interacted more you may have saved it
but over water is unforgiving, I don’t hold much hope with DJI, sorry
Can only hope…Flyaway report submitted.
Do you have care refresh?
2KM out at 40% battery and the wind against you, despite Airdata stating 10 kmh (it is always under what it really is) …
… but not overiding the RTH was the nail in the coffin.
I know how it feels, sorry mate.
No, don’t have care refresh, drone was 2nd hand so well past the option for the after 48 hours thing and I hadn’t done one of those videos to prove it was fully functional etc that I’ve seen you can do for them. I’m just trying my luck with DJI. They can only (and likely will) say no.
Would not hitting RTH have made any difference? Battery was 50% at 3698ft out, this would have been the point to fly back, no? At 40% and even further out, would sports mode have made a difference? There surely wouldn’t have been enough juice to get back safely as the point of no return had already been passed? Genuine questions guys.
In any case i feel sorry for your loss. If nothing else it’s a good reminder to everyone to keep an eye on your battery levels and how much you need to get back home.
In my obvious naivety I always thought when a drone decided to RTH, it would have enough battery to get back from that point. I get that wind will always affect its travel so once again lesson learned…the hard way.
That’s what I thought too. Surely RTH should have kicked in earlier?
