Pilot arrested and rightly so
Indeedā¦Play stupid games and win regretful prizes.
The very sort of flyers that give the good ones a bad name
Also the reason weāre having more and more restrictions placed on us
Assuming that this was deliberate, and I canāt see how it canāt have been, everyone knows that West Country carnivals attract big crowds in narrow streeds. Even if the people hitting was accidental (battery died, drone collided with road train), he deserves everything heās going to get. Iām guessing he was flying without lights in order to get away with it, which would mean he was fully aware of what he was doing! Arsehole.
These carnivals are extremely popular and impressive, even if theyāre not bastions of the most refined and cultured taste, and a good subject for filming. The spectators are crowded on to the pavements of narrow streets where the light and noise are most effective. But there are ways of standing off to the side of the route and filming so that the crowds are not beneath the drone. I would have thought that the video would be more effective from a decent height and standing off a little anyway, as well as much safer and within the rules (assuming a sub-250g drone).
I hope no serious injuries were sustained, except to the drone. Iāve been to Bridgwater Carnival a few times, and if it happened there, there wouldnāt be much drone left by the time the crowd had (cough/stomp) āretrievedā itā¦
How would the requirement of a single green light have prevented this ?
Come on John.
Iām out!
What a wally well done mate
Not far from me . weston carnival posted on facebook no drones . wouldnāt fly over it anyway .
These are the kind of āDrone hobbyistsā I hate
What I meant was that he was probably deliberately and knowingly flying at night without any lights (these carnys take place at night) in order to fly close in to the action without being detected. Of course there is nothing illegal in that in itself, but close in at a carny means flying over crowds. I think he knew full well what he was doing and that it was illegal, as it involved flying over crowds who, on pavements in narrow streets, had nowhere to go to avoid a drone even if they were aware of it!
Shame on him.
Very easy to be a street away, high and not over crowds.
I suspect that he made the mistake of crossing over the route and not having the power to get back.
I avoid these carnivals myself - pain in the backside for road closures
I cant help but wonder if a CAP 382 MORS was filled in for this
Thereās no actual requirement for lights on drones. What the chap is guilty of is ā flying over a crowdā which is strictly off limits.
No, I know that, he was flying legally in the lighting sense, but illegally over a crowd, without lights so that he would be undectected. I never said he was legally obliged to have lights, only that having them might have given the game away. In the event, the game was given away by his crashing into two peopleā¦
It is thatā¦ then again, saw a video of a firework display this morning on Facebook. First few seconds are from the drone taking off from the middle of the crown.
Where did we get the no lights from? I didnt see that in the article.
You seem to have become judge and jury. Iād leave it for the investigating authorities to deal with and consider if this individual is to be charged. He may have been a dick but innocent before being proved guilty.
*crowd (obviously)
