Mavic storage, what do you use?

Finally got round to taking some pics of my case.

This is the third case now (there’s a pattern here!) as I’m still suffering with accessory-itis and I keep outgrowing my previous cases at a rate of knots

I bought this as it has room for more stuff than I actually have, so I can grow in to it. There’s also room for me to cut some of the moulding out inside if I need it to house more too.

It’s a GPC case, well, it’s technically a 5.11 RUSH12 backpack with a Mavic-shaped moulding inside it.

Exceptionally well built, I absolutely love it. It’s got more pockets and compartments on it than I can shake a platinum prop at

The rear outside compartment (not shown here) houses my iPad Mini 2 and will comfortably hold the CS if they ever get released.

The front outside compartment holds the foldup iPad screen hood, the MavMount (soon to have the CS plate on it) and the folding landing pad (which I use on 99% of my flights). The front compartment also holds the mains charger (not shown here).

On the inside lid/flap compartment (out of left shot on the below pic) is the extending landing gear (never used yet?!) and two Strobon CREE LEDs. Few bits of paper also housed in this compartment too.

The moulded housing above did have room for four spare batteries but I widened it to store the twin getterback water recovery system.

Holly shizzle batman!!

Mate!! I need to know where you got the moulded foam for the mavic from???

That backpack is the mutts. I use the exact bag for work and have done for years so I can vouch for how awesome it is.

I’d but another in a heartbeat if I knew where to acquire the foam Insert.

Edit:

Scratch the above. I followed your link to their website and I have placed my order.

I’m currently using a lowepro backpack with a separate removable case for the mavic, it’s good but I remember when I got it I wished the bag was half as well made as my 5.11 tactical bags (I have 3 of them) now from reading your post my dreams have been answered.

They are seriously well made aren’t they. I bought it direct from GPC in the States (apparently UK distributors aren’t being sent this bag). It wasn’t cheap I must admit, but it holds everything in one bag.

They shipped it via DHL International, fully tracked from their door to mine, and it was here just 72hrs after placing my order - super fast delivery :+1:

Yes Iphone 7 plus and it’s battery lasts all 3 mavic batteries.

I’ve had my rush 12 for about 5 years it gets daily abuse being lugged around with me whilst at work, (emergency services worker) it’s still like new and it’s seen some serious use.
I wish I could put into words how perfect I personally think this mavic backpack is!

No you’re right, not cheap. But I’m a massive believer in getting what you pay for, and I can personally vouch for the quality of the rush 12 backpack. I’ve destroyed many rucksacks over the years, this one is tough.

Five years of constant use? Even more impressive!

I bought the velcro flag patch from eBay for a few quid

An update on the case as I’ve made a change or two since getting a 7.85 CrystalSky.

In the rear pocket now resides the CS, inside an Amazon Basics neoprene sleeve, just to protect it from scratches more than anything else:

You can see the near-flush fitting DJI quick release bracket attached to the bottom of the screen here too, zero setup times :+1:

Gone now is the MavMount from the lower front pocket, in here now I just keep the CS charging hub and a sheet of polythene.

Why?

Nope, not because I’m Dexter on the quiet, but because 9 times out of 10 I take off from places where there is simply no where clean (or dry!) to put my bag down! So I lay a sheet of old polythene down, usually on wet grass, then setup from there

The upper front pocket now houses the Phantom 4 charger - incredibly all this gubbins fits in the top pocket.

With the P4 charger, I still now only need to carry one charger :+1:

So the biggest change is probably this hole that I cut out of the top of the foam :open_mouth:

Because I need to fit this in the case too…

What we have here is a MavMount base plate with a DJI CS quick-release bracket attached. It doesn’t fold down, but it does allow for super-quick setups, so in order to carry it neatly I cut the above hole out.

Which means it does then fit, upside down, beautifully flush in the case :+1:

It’s close to the top of the foam - and close to the controller tool - I had to be really careful cutting it out.

Top left of that pic, the two square batteries with labels on are for the CrystalSky.

On top of all that then sits the landing pad.

Job done :+1:

If you’re in the market for one of these GPC backpacks, @Flyingpigvrs has a brand new one for sale in the UK - a rare thing indeed!

Took a while to find a small hardcase that would actually take all of the FlyMore combo and some…

I’ve been looking at the Tomcase, looks to be very well made with enough room for three additional batteries plus charger etc. How do you rate it?

Excellent, looked around at all the alternative ones, this looked the best. The next option up is the one that can hold the DJI soft case too…

These have got great reviews :+1:

HA! Excellent idea

Nope, only had it a few weeks - I’m one of the very few people in the world (literally) to own an Ultra!

I can’t recommend them enough - coming from an iPad Mini 2 to the Ultra, the difference just has to be seen to be believed. I’ll be sure to bring it along to any NW meet :+1:

@SteveM loving that hard case mate!

It’s seriously compact too!

Is the footprint of the lid large enough for you to take off from?

The case is pretty awesome, its probably THE most compact case I’ve seen so far…as for take off, just, but landing might be another matter!

The NANUK 920 DJI™ Case is a rare as hens teeth but I will get one soon they do it in many colours but I have the silver version in mind.
Thanks for Your Comments @PingSpike

And While on the DJI Store last night I did see they have added this Pelican Case In Black or Orange
Pelican Mavic Protector Case £139 https://store.dji.com/product/pelican-mavic-protector-case

The Nanuk was the other case i contemplated, but that Peli case Isn’t too shabby either.

What I loved about the TomTop case was just how well laid out it is.
this looks quite good too: https://www.heliguy.com/b-w-mavic-pro-hard-case-type-3000-p4376

My pleasure mate.

Thank @PingSpike, he was the one that discovered the bag, I nearly had kittens when I saw it and realised it was based on the 5.11 rush which I’ve kinda got a bit of a thing for.

I wanted one that bad I ordered one from GPC, then when it went on back order I started looking elsewhere (I’m very impatient) I found another and ordered it with the intention of cancelling the GPC order…being stressed and busy at work took its toll and it slipped my mind, hence you getting the chance of joining the GPC rucksack club!!

Hope the bag does you well my friend.

Safe flying.
