IGNORE FORT NELSON MEET REGROUP AT WATERSIDE LANE CAR PARK BY PORTCHESTER CASTLE. LATE BREAKING PROBLEM WITH PERMISSIONS.
SEE DRONE SCENE ENTRY FOR PORTCHESTER CASTLE IF YOU NEED DIRECTIONS. OR CALL 07401 009591I
wwelcome to join me. There are a lot of artillery pieces on display, both inside and outside the building which itself is a fascinating piece of military architecture both overground and underground.
IF YOU ARE NOT ATTENDING THE MUSEUM DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 17:30 - this is to give time for the place to clear of cars. Parking is VERY Limited and will be in front of the locked car park gates.
HAZARDS: We need to keep clear of the Defence Research Establishment to the east else ModPlod will be interfering with our fun. There are conspicuous pylons and power lines to the south. Cars travel the road very fast - take great care if crossing.
PLEASE SEE AND READ THE DISCUSSION for full details,
To be seen are:
A large Victorian Fort
An obelisk commemorating Admiral Lord Nelson
Hill views of Portsmouth and the Solent
No toilets. Food and drink is available a couple of miles to the east at Mick's Monster Burgers - also a good site for views and potential flying. Maybe finish the meet with cuppa splosh an' a greasy dog?
It might be worth driving past and seeing if any signs are on the perimeter fence that may say it’s now a ’ Prohibited Place ’ under the National Security 2023. If so steer clear and be mindful of Section 5 of said Act.
If you are intending to come along at one’ish to check out the museum and the fort DM me for my phone number so we can text when you get there and then we can meet up.
What I was planning was parking in the entrance you show in your top picture and if more people arrive than can be accomodated there overspill to the two car park entrances across the road (All marked a P when the Drone Scene map is enlarged.)
We might be able to squeeze a couple of cars there but i did see some ‘no parking’ signs.
Everything marked with a P on dronescene and googlemaps has locked gates at this time. Including the overflow carpark opposite.
On a side note. There are a ton of boy racer types and a epic queue for the burger van but it seems to be a special occasion mèetup. Reminds me of my misspent youth. Good old typhoid tommies on the a40
