Mike.M from Plymouth

Hi there, everyone. I’ve been asked to write a little more about myself on here…so here goes. I am retired, but am still reasonably fit for getting out and about with possible future members who fancy a meetup sometime. I have had a fascination for all things to do with aviation from a young age, having built balsa free flight gliders and control line model aircraft as a kid. In my later days, I actually flew a Cessna, but didn’t get my full pilot’s licence, due to the fact that it got too expensive. I then went on to fly more less expensive ‘seat of the pants’ stuff, as in hang gliders and paragliders. However, had to give all that up due to the fact that I’m getting on a bit now…so these days am settling for remaining earthbound and at least getting into the air via the drone…if that makes sense. I have recently passed my Operators and Flyer’s tests and have 3rd Party Insurance…so I’m trying to do all this the right way. I have flown my mini 4 Pro drone yesterday, and was surprised by the smoothness, precision and abilities of this amazing machine. I have transport, and can easiy arrange to pick up or travel to fellow members who fancy a good day out with our drones. I have been a sparky for the past 25yrs and before that, was a scaffolder, working foreman, whereupon I, amongst other things, scaffolded both the Brunel and Tamar bridges, with only 4 men. We where out there in all weathers for almost two blxxdy years …lol…but seen the contract out and fully completed both contracts without injury or incident. I’m looking forward to members contacting me with a view to a meet up…and meantime am going to get a lot more stick time…weather permitting…in order to master the flight characteristics of drone flying. Hope this info helps…and look forward to getting to know and making friends with like-minded people out there…Cheers for Plymouth…Mike.M

There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.

Cheers, mate !

Yes…remember sticking the tissue to the wings and fuselage…and then shrinking it down with that Dope ? Man, the fumes from that stuff used to make my eyeballs go round like a slot machine ! Lol. I also remember having to pin the plans to big front room table, and rubbing candle wax over the plans so that the glued parts wouldn’s stick to it and tear the plans to pieces when you tried to remove the assembled parts that were also pinned to the table. The weighting and trimming of the models was also a bit of a pain…but I used to love that fact that I’d built something that actually flew well in the end.
