Hey all, new to the forum. Been flying for 5 years or so now.
There is a Military site which does not have a FRZ and have recently started construction on expansions and a planed Solar Farm which I would like to capture with there being no FRZ. Do members believe it to be lawful to capture images for use on social media documenting the construction here. Or do you expect this to fall under restrictions as part of The National Security Act 2023?
Please share your thoughts and any information you think would be helpful to me making a decision if to fly or not?

Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.

The issue in particular for @Kevlar93 being is sites under the NSA 2023 will not be listed for obvious reasons. And as I have experienced on my travels, a certain number of civilian sites are also covered under the NSA.
Clearly flying over any military establishment is going to cause a security concern, but @Kevlar93 - you are responsible for your own actions so give it some thought before you do.
As others have said If it’s covered by the National Security Act, there may be nothing showing on any drone apps. Under this act there’s not even anything making such a facility put up physical notices on their perimeter fencing either. Strange that a drone operator can now unwittingly break a law without even seeing an official sign ( and as we know, ignorance of the law is no excuse)
I’d stay safe and assume if it’s a military installation, then the NSA applies.
There may well be signs, but there’s nothing in the National Security Act stating that such facilities have to put signs up. I think it’s a fair bet that many designated sites are not even military facilities.
This is one of the few times I would try and gain permission, which will most likely be denied. It may not be ilegal as there is no frz, but you will almost certainly attract unwanted attention and hassle. For me, this one would not be worth the effort, lawful or not.
Tbh, can’t really see why anyone would want to video a barracks. Barracks are just sheds where soldiers live. pretty boring. though I suppse a video of them going through parade ground drills might look good.
Interesting militay establishments are where the cool stuff lives, tanks, ships, planes & stuff. Most of these will have FRZs and even if they don’t, I would think that drone-flying over them would elecit a response. Basically, the military keep their noses out of my biz and I’m happy to afford them the same courtesy…
