Mini Pro 3 Potential fault

Having some problems with my new Mini 3 Pro drone. The manual footage I take is very blurry, I have wiped the lens and its not that. Flown using autofocus and not manual. I use my drones for mapping, but also a bit of fun footage now and again. So the site I have tried mapping today has come out blurry, both video and photos. But yet on the same day I have done a “follow me” shot of my friends car and it has come out perfect. I’ve tested this over the last couple of weeks and got the same results. So the automated shots seem to come out fine, but the manual flights are just giving me blurry footage and I am not sure why. I am making sure to focus before take off but makes no difference. Any ideas guys and gals, I’m a bit frustrated, taken the shine off the new drone really.

Is this the video that’s saved to your phone/device, or the files transferred from the SD card?

I had a similar issue and returned the drone to DJI for a warranty repair, the camera flat cable was faulty

Footage from the SD card, I have the RC2 controller so I dont use my phone.

Ah man, I just dont understand if the automated stuff is perfectly clear why the manual footage is all out of focus. The lens can obviously focus properly when it wants to. How long did the warranty repair take?

It was a week from sending off to receiving a new drone

OK thankyou. I will just have to win that Mini 4 tomorrow in the meantime!

Hi Sparky, do I have to request a DJI service repair, or is it a different process for a fault? I have DJI refresh, but I’ve luckily never needed to use it ever in the past.

Have you tried using manual focus and turn on the focus peaking feature?
This tints everything that is in focus in a red colour, so it’s a lot easier (on the small controller screen) to see if everything (that should be in focus) is in focus.

If it was all tinged red when you filmed it and it’s blurred when you watch it back, at least you know it was in focus as you shot it.

Yes request a repair and if its a warranty fault it will be free

But you are focussing just becore taking a photo, hopefully? Not just “before take off”?

its more the video footage that is the problem.

Another thing you could try is to refresh the firmware using the DJI assistant 2

Doesnt the RC2 update firmware (I did one the other day) or is the assistant different?

Yes but once it is updated you can’t reinstall it, with the assistant it gives you the option to refresh

Sometimes the installation has an issue and refreshing fixes the problem

OK thanks, certainly worth a shot thanks.

Small update. Saw a youtube video from around a year ago where he had the same problem. He switched his into manual focus and stuck it on infinity mode and he seemed to fix his blurry footage. I took mine out last night and did the same and it worked great, footage was clear once I got home and checked it. Seems a strange “fix”, I havent had to mess with manual focus on any previous drone, I’ve basically just left in auto and never had a problem up until now. @SparkyFPV thanks for the headsup about DJI Assistant, even though my kit said it was up to date on firmware, there was actually 2 new updates for the RC2 and one for the drone itself so all very strange. I’ll just have to remember to put it into manual focus in future when doing manual flights.

Where had you been setting the focus to previously?

Did you try …

?

Yes sorry Ozone I did try the focus peaking, looked fine on screen. I’ve just left the drone on Auto focus since I bought it.
