Motor or ESC?

Anyone know what this ESC sound is, and is the issue likely to be motor or ESC?

Yup… could be either. But I suspect the motor. It is actually more likely to be at fault.

I’ve not heard that sound before either.

cool cheers, just wiring up a new motor (for the AOS 5, but hey at least I can test!), will see. Hope it’s a motor not the ESC (which is new!)

Yaeh it’s the motor. Strange though was all working on bench fine before, and nothing “obviosly” looks wrong or is stuck with it, maybe resolder and see what happens, one of the joints wasn’t great… actually looks out right bad the soldering job there!

Nah dead as do do… New motor time then

Will order a couple, some batteries and get on with the AOS O3 then. Least only a motor and a quick swap. It’s all ready otherwise. In stock too which is rare lol

Sounded like a bearing issue. Something catching. I guess you tried the obvious stuff like WD-40 / Teflon Lube.

Haven’t actually. It’s still on drone atm so could try it

Try spraying it up with, ideally that TF-2 Teflon lubricant if you have any. Same stuff they use on push bike chains. Lubricates and the Teflon removes friction. But WD-40 will work as well, but if it does work, you might need to reapply it from time to time. But if it does fix it, I would probably still replace the motor, keep the current one as a spare.

I have mukoff chian lube and WD 40, don’t think the stuff you said. Yeah a replacement safer they flown a lot and even had a little 6s fun (when 2450kv) last time they were flown
.will order 2 anyways so have a spare. The O3 tomorrow… Eeeeeee!

Do not break the O3, lol. That represents the main reason i won’t go to digital. Break an analogue vtx or camera, get another for £25. Break a digital vtx or camera, £100. :frowning:

Saying that I saw a bunch of the old Shark Byte/Divimath whoop boards at some crazy price the other week, like ÂŁ30 each. I was tempted to grab one, but when i went back someone had bought all eight of them. Not that I have any HDZero goggles, but did see a Shark Byte receiver for ÂŁ100 somewhere a couple of months back, maybe HobbyRC.

Sounds like a grub screw loose, perhaps rubbing on the copper wires in the motor.

I saw on for ÂŁ60 on FB market place recently. Its worth keeping an eye out. If you are serious ill let you know if I see a good deal

I don’t know if I am. I like the idea of digital, just not the price tag, and the blocks when you lose signal on HDZ are a major put off. i would rather lose latency than vision. If I have picture but it is only refreshing every 5 secs, at least I can still just about see (and maybe just throttle punch to get better signal). It seems on HDZ when you lose signal you are essentially fkd.

I did admittedly look at some DJI goggles a couple of months back and could have afforded them at the time, but my path is probably WS. Right now I’m biding my time while they iron out the kinks, of which there seems to be a few.

Now having flown both WS and HDZero quite a bit. I can honestly say both types of breakup are annoying.

You do get a bit more range from WS before breakup, but the trade off is that HDzero is easier to fly. I hear people say that they compensate for the constant shit latency in WS, but I reckon they actually just have to accept that flying is harder.

If what you really care about is flying well, HDZero is your best choice. Latency really is that important. Even for fairly crappy pilots, like me.

The main things WS has is the onboard recording and slightly better range/penetration. It is better for long range and fixed wing.

One thing to note is that the latency of WS might be better on the WS/fatshark goggles. My experience is on the VRX. However the WS goggles are unnecessarily limiting in their feature set.

I actually flew and witnessed a GOOD analogue setup yesterday (usually fly vista’s/DJI), and I was actually impressed with the quality. Maybe my age but the latency whilst I think can see it, for me… meh! Defo want to look at HDZero’s though when meet up with the guys here who have them!

Why can’t we have DJI image quality, and low low latency. Was thinking on this this morning, why did DJI update to h265 for video sending (for avata/O3), surely 264 easier to decode, so the hardware gets cheaper, better, faster… I guess you can cram better imagers onto 265… but DJI V1 (vista/airunit), still better than the others for video quality… I dunno! 265 will come down in price and get faster, but not till the 3rd gen (oh yeah O3… WTF if with DJI and their numberings… Goggles V2/Goggles 2… integra…) they mad!

Yes, it is possible. Our 4" Diatone is such a quad, so good I’ve left it completely stock…

I’m also not sure how I’d fit a decent HD VTX in the frame.

A few months back i got offered a set of v1 goggles for a very good price. I, in hindsight, made a dumb choice and didn’t buy them. I kind of wish i had now. But it seems to be hard to find vista units now. For the sort of flying I do, probably a set of v1 DJI goggles would be fine.

Yeah if I was going WS I would buy the Fatshark Recon HD goggles. They have them at HobbyRC at exactly the same price as the Emax Transporter HD goggles. But as you say the latency is the issue. From what i read, the Recon HD is limited to 60fps @ 720p, where as the Dominators can do more than double that at HD. But then Dominators cost 3x what the Recon HD costs. So swings and roundabouts.

So i don’t know. If I someone came to me with a set of v1 goggles and the price was good and I had the money in the bank, i would probably go down that route. Similarly I’ve seen v2 goggles for not massively more. Then i guess you need a vista for each quad, a digital camera and spares.

I suppose the upside to the DJI goggles is you can throw an ImmersionRC rapidfire in the module bay and access analogue as well. Would be nice to have one set of goggles that did everything. So I can keep my whoops and smaller craft an on analogue.

Are vistas hard to come by then? Runcam links? Not looked for a while tbh. Though the neb pro camera is the best for that generation

I don’t know if the new stuff is backwards compatible. I haven’t looked at DJI a lot.

But I looked the other night at HobbyRC, UMT and YourFPV and no one had a vista.
