Necarne Castle - Added to Castles and Fortifications in Northern Ireland

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission requirements unknown.

Common place for people to walk. Large open space, may require a walk from parking spot.

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 20/06/2024. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

Hi @Soupc

The map says “Necarne Castle” but your entry says “Castle Irvine”?

Ah you may be right, my bad.

The land is called “Castle Irvine Estate”, but you are right the castle is called Necarne.

Thanks for the confirmation, and thanks for editing and updating your entry

It is known by some as Irvine castle as the Irvines of Dumfries came across and renamed it and the town which is a stones throw from it from Lowthertown to irvinestown.

Luckily the town name stayed this way as it could have been called Hermontown when the Hermon family took over the castle in the early 19th century :rofl::rofl::rofl:
