Yes, I’d agree. That would make the MM a good legacy drone to hang onto!
Does the MP2 Zoom class as a legacy drone?
From my limited understanding I suspect it will be A3, although I hope otherwise. I also hope that us mavic 2 flyers will get some way of meeting the less restrictive category. It’s not that I don’t want to pass any exam etc just that my mavic 2 will be deemed outdated etc. Simon
Well are you PfCO qualified?
No I am not PFCO, I was alluding to the new closed book test incoming in 2022 which I am happy to do as required and not the pfco as I am not interested in commercial work, do you do any?
Yes I do, not much though
On a side note, I sent an email to DJI about the lack of information on this on their site. I told them that I would never buy tech with the idea that it would become legacy in 2 years and really disappointed with this. I have asked them for clarity on their understanding of the situation and whether my new drone they have marketed to me, would become legacy and have challenged why they do not inform buyers. It may be a useless attempt to find out what they may be planning, but if I hear I will post up here.
Good idea, I am seriously annoyed about my new kit being made obsolete with the new regs. Fine with the test but it’s a disgrace that the current equipment is being hamstrung so soon.
Hmm yes, that’s also why I set this thread up, to inform others
Sadly, DJI keeps all new products unknown for ages until release
I would expect as much but you can only try. Also there might be something within EU consumer rights as they clearly knew about the changes but were not informing those purchasing. This may seem crazy angle but I once got a refund on a faulty Samsung TV after buying it 5 years previous, and this was down to EU law on expected life span of a product. It failed even though out of warranty but Currys had to refund me (70% of purchase price) due to this law that I mentioned to them. It may seem a bit bitter but why should DJI get away with taking money from people buying a long term investment only to find out that it has a 2 year shelf life. I am not going to take them to court or anything but it just doesn’t feel right to me. I am all up for their innovations but they will only do well off the back off consumers, and they should be more transparent. P.S. More annoyed than normal tonight as lost my ticket to see Star wars earlier. £20 down the drain and had to rebook for Saturday
Oh damm, was it available to purchase as an e-ticket? Right, back on track to answer your query well I would say that you could contact DJI or whoever you bought the Mavic 2 from, however, you probably won’t get much luck, with it by going through DJI. But if you have to because you bought the Mavic from them then, you don’t have a choice.
Seems so much to get your head around (pass the anadin extra) have come across this diagram though if it helps anyone… may already of been posted
Steve, thanks for posting this in the thread, where did you get this image from, it’s very useful
No problem @alexmciver I found it on
EU Regulations Updates - Drone Rules
Like I say don’t know how relevant it is as I’m still confused by it all as are many others but hopefully there some useful info here.
I’m liking how the thread I made is so useful for so many
Ha ha happy for you as this simpleton gets confused so easily
huh?
Had a response back from DJI which leads to the idea that some existing products would get a CE rating. Lets speculate, see below:
Dear Thomas,
Thank you for contacting DJI Support.
Starting from June 2020, new rules will define the usage of drones within the European Union.
The EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency) has not yet finalized the publication of certain standards regarding these regulations.
We are confident that many existing DJI products will be able to obtain CE marking and as such continue to be used also after the transition years. For those products that will not be able to obtain the new CE marking, the transition period provides a gradual phase out – and they will even still be allowed to be used in category C4 after 2022.
As this matter is ongoing, please understand that once the standards have been finalized we will have a better understanding for the usage of your products in the future.
Thank you for choosing DJI products.
Best Regards,
Carlo

What DJI say sort of contradicts what the CAA is saying, no? Or am I reading it wrong?
