Just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself. My name’s Brad, I’m 21 years old, drive trucks in Lancaster during the week and a brand-new flyer with the Mini 4 Pro. Hoping to make this a hobby I’ll really enjoy!
I’m based in Blackpool on the Fylde Coast, so if anyone has any beginner tips or knows some great local flying spots, I’d love to hear them. Looking forward to learning and being part of the community!
Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.
And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.
Hi @bradd and welcome aboard the GADC community
It might be worth yourself joining @group-northwest as if anyone around the area arranges and local meet ups for good places to fly theyvwill generally tag this griup you should receive a notifixation when they do
Hi Brad, I’m in Fleetwood, I fly round the docks and the sea front a lot, I have a boat and use the drone to keep an eye on where the deep water channel is. I have a caravan at Marton Mere but that’s under the no fly zone for the airport, I could request a clearance from them but not had a good reason to yet. Enjoy your flying and my advice would be don’t practice over water until you are good or put floats on it, I had a claim from DJI when it went in the dock after hitting a mast.
I hope you really enjoy it. You’ll no doubt spot things as you’re driving your trucks that you can go back and visit and drone. Why wife when she was a sales rep on the road used to, and go back with her camera.
I used to always have the camera gear with me (my work was peripatetic), except if my work took me into “really dodgy areas”. Wishi’d had a drone back then.
